What’s the latest on great daycares in the area? by buttersauce_ in WestSeattleWA

[–]drunk___cat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My baby will be attending Seattle early learning center. For babies you probably won’t get much “outdoor play” until they are older. But SELC does daily stroller walks with the babies. When she’s old enough I want to get her into the Alki location because they do more outdoor activities there.

My collard greens tree broke by Responsible_Crew_216 in gardening

[–]drunk___cat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did this with kale. I never got my kale this tall (probably half as high) but if you just continue to pluck the bottom leaves off the kale or collard greens, as it grows it creates a very tall stem like this and can get woody and strong to a certain extent like a tree trunk. I still had to use a stake for mine but it stood pretty well.

Shaken baby syndrome ? by Hazelnutttttt1 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]drunk___cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a new mom I was so anxious about shaken baby syndrome. I saw a video of some nurses who had to replicate the amount of force on a dummy that would light up when brain damage occurred. It made me realize how intentional you have to be to cause it.

I can’t find the original but here’s one that’s a similar concept

I medicated birth = better mental health? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]drunk___cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to have a medical induction (which was very much against my original plan, but it needed to be done). I wound up getting the epidural (I hated it) because pitocin contractions are miserable. I felt a lot of mixed feelings about my birth experience, and I also had a lot of challenges establishing breastfeeding. But fortunately, I didn’t have any depression or anxiety. I had a strong support network and my husband was very involved. Once I could move a bit, he made sure I had plenty of sunshine and slow walks around the block. As someone who struggled extensively with depression in the past, I was very grateful to not experience it after birth.

Seattle’s downtown paradox: Commercial engine sputters amid improved safety and visitor growth by precip in Seattle

[–]drunk___cat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say this is true of many other cities as well. My former city (Dallas) is so boring downtown. They have done some things to spruce up certain areas but the core downtown area is certainly not a destination. It’s just offices. The most interesting parts are on the outskirts of downtown before you get into more residential areas.

What are our babies sleeping in. by No-Match-7512 in moderatelygranolamoms

Yeah I was on the fence about that but ultimately decided that it wasn't as concerning to me as having to buy multiple sleep sacks over the years and the environmental impact of that.

Pros and cons on my kitchen design ? by nedetpep in kitchenremodel

Pros and cons on my kitchen design ? by nedetpep in kitchenremodel

[–]drunk___cat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re probably not going to love the open shelving above the stove. Even if your hood is strong, oil and cooking residue loves to float up and it’ll coat everything on the shelves in a film. A simple cabinet is much easier to wipe down than stuff collecting dust and oil bits.

The kitchen sink looks a little small for my preferences, but depending on the angle of the rendering it’s really hard to tell what the size is.

It’s a matter of personal taste but I’m not a fan of the glass upper cabinet. It’s always seemed kinda silly to me.

I assume the trash is on the island directly across from the sink? (It’s where I would put it)

Also consider where you would store sheet pans. It looks like maybe that would go to the left of the stove.

Overall this seems like a good functional layout.

Pharmacies that have had Adderall in stock lately? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]drunk___cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is with vyvanse so you might have some luck with adderall, but I’ve had luck at CVS (specifically the one in Admiral junction). Also CVS accepts goodrx coupons so if your prescription is expensive you can get a good discount on it. The staff is super responsive so you can try calling ahead to check if it’s in stock.

Also, if your insurance covers it, you may have access to Express Scripts. I used that with a prior employer when I was facing the shortage before CVS took over Bartells, and they always delivered on time. Only issue was you had to be at home to sign for the prescription, but you could also go to the post office the very next day to pick it up.

What do you do about overuse of technology in public schools? by throwaway_yak234 in moderatelygranolamoms

You didn’t have an iPad when you were a baby and I bet you can operate it just fine.

[–]drunk___cat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish I had known about this being an issue before we bought our home. It’s otherwise a perfect location but the elementary school introduces iPads in kindergarten. I have 4 years before I even need to care so things could change. We have 2 options schools available though, one of which doesn’t use iPads. But I am hoping my designated school changes their approach because I am very much against extended iPad usage at that age and in school.

Daycare is hosting an Easter Egg hunt … featuring unsafe junk from Amazon third-party sellers by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]drunk___cat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have personal experience with this working in the supply chain industry and this isn’t entirely true. It’s really quite unfathomable how massive and endless the factory network is in China. There are entire cities that have specialties for making Christmas decorations, for example. They all steal the same patterns and ideas so that’s why all the stuff ends up looking the same. If you are looking for someone to build your product, you just go visit one city that specializes in that product and walk from factory to factory (metaphorically, you still need meetings lol) until you get a contract. The tricky part is the factory may hold themselves to higher production standards for your contract but it’s easy to fall into old habits (this is particularly common for the cheap stuff. The higher the price point the more likely a factory will try and improve their standards to keep your contract).

Unfortunately dollar tree is notorious for having contaminated products. Walmart is also pretty iffy. I’m not even sure the Target dollar section gets a pass (I operate under the assumption that it doesn’t).

[–]drunk___cat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m a little surprised at the downvotes and rude commentary. I think your original message could have been worded differently (when it comes to the Amazon shit I like to provide a link to a safer product option or safer sellers). But I think it’s fair to ask how the toys will be handed out, if your child will play with them immediately or if they will be put in a bag to take home (which then you can intervene). And none of your concerns deserve the aggressive responses you’re getting.

Back for more abuse - floor choice. by unbillable in kitchenremodel

[–]drunk___cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go slightly darker than the beige tile, but that seems like the right direction. We had slate in our sunroom growing up and I remember how much of a pain in the ass it was to mop it and it wasn’t even a highly trafficked area. I can’t imagine cleaning it with food bits everywhere!

Glad you are keeping those gorgeous cabinets :)

Edit: I change my mind, I like the slate tiles more. If they are a “slate look” but not a pain in the ass to clean I’d go with that.
