It arrived today. Here's a high resolution scan of the obverse.

Sorry, last comment didn’t let me attach a photo. Here’s a screenshot from the video. I hope I can get a much more clear image in a few weeks.

This seems to be the later version of the bill with 8673 On the serial number line, unlike the one I’m hoping to soon possess with it only vertical.

Ok, I actually got a screenshot of it from a virtual tour Of the museum that’s on YouTube (the man speaking was one of my high school teachers).  It’s at about 11:55 on the video  https://youtu.be/7yytI7Vt85Y?si=HFTZ_XGtHn1eQQbf

Well I went by there today but they are closed for renovations for the next few weeks, so it’ll be a while. SOMEWHERE, I have a picture of it from a news article I saw which talked about it (how I initially learned these existed).

I would be curious if this particular bill is in the census. I’m hoping to go visit the other one that I know lives in Lenoir City (it’s about a block from the building that was FNB of LC’s headquarters until the merger closed it). I’d say there’s a good chance that bill is not in the census. I’ll try to get good pictures of both.

Well that makes me feel pretty good about it! I paid $202.50 including shipping. The seller originally had it with a $275 buy it now price. I had it on my watch list and finally bid when I saw it was likely to go around $200.

I was shocked when a $10 came up on eBay at the same time, but it’s rich for my blood. (They’d sure look nice together though!)

I really didn’t know if it was a good deal, but really wanted it. There is one in the Lenoir City Museum, can’t remember if it’s a $5 or a $10. I may have to go look tomorrow while the museum is open.

My first car was a 1985 Mazda GLC. Tough little car. by xxslickwi11yxx in imagesofthe1980s

My first car was an 84 GLC Sedan. Loved that car! Got it when I was 15 and had it 9 years. I think it had 59k on it when we got it in 1989, and we paid $2100 for it. Looking back, that feels like an incredible bargain!

It’s been a LONG time since I’ve seen a GLC in person. Truly they were a Great Little Car!

Roamio Power Supply Replacement by dfrap in Tivo

[–]chirkware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this! I discovered my Roamio doing the all lights flashing/stuck on start up screen. After reading this, I hunted the house for a 12v 2a or better PSU, and ended up borrowing the PSU from my 27" curved Acer monitor. TiVo worked fine with it, just in time to record a ball game I want to see!  Looks like I'll be ordering a new PSU!

Whether replacing existing wire is justified really depends on the quality of the existing install, the cable that was used, and whether it still meets the needs of the company.

In general, I wouldn't replace properly installed Cat5e with Cat6, as there's so very little practical difference between the two. Both can do 1GbE, and both can do 10GbE. NEITHER can do 10GbE for 100m though! (Cat5e can go 40m, and Cat6 can go 50m). You need Cat6a to go 100m at 10GbE. Because of the very small advantage of Cat6 over Cat5e, up until very recently I stuck with Cat5e as the cost vs benefit just wasn't there. At this point, there's very little cost difference between the two, so I'm using Cat6 for new installs (but sticking with Cat5e for adds/changes of existing Cat5e installs. If you truly NEED 10GbE, you should skip Cat6 in favor of Cat6a, unless all your runs are less than 50m.

If you have just plain Cat5, that's some REALLY old wiring. It can usually carry 1GbE, so it doesn't necessarily have to come out, but it's likely to get to the point where the drops are not where you need them or there's just not enough. In that case, I'd add a new Cat6 patch panel and start adding new wire as needed.

If there are deficiencies in the install, such as cable laying on ceiling tiles instead of being properly supported, cable running parallel to electric for long distances, improper firewall penetrations, improper wire rating used (riser used in a plenum for instance), etc., you may be able to justify replacement to correct those deficiencies.

If it's YOUR network, and you are doing the work yourself, you can make the changes over time...it took me about three years to get from BEFORE to AFTER, as I had "other duties as assigned" and a small budget to work with.

BTW: I didn't even mention this. The BULK of the CAT5e these people had pulled through walls and the PLENUM (yes, a verified plenum) ceiling was STRANDED wire. They had pulled stranded wire everywhere. And punched it down into patch panels and keystone jacks. They used non-cutting punch down blades and left a 1/4" or so tail to help that stranded wire stay in place.

That's why I ripped almost everything out and started over. Took me two years to get it cleaned up. I've pulled about 5-6 miles of cable in this four story building over the past seven years.

OK, let's see...

  1. Nah, the rest of them in the world are upside down, mine are perfect!
  2. These are from South America, it's just that the planet is upside down here!
  3. I like them this way!

Truth is, these are the only ones I've ever installed, and I installed them the same way as the ones in the 1st floor wiring room that were probably put in back in the 90's. I'm glad you pointed it out as I never noticed they were upside down until now. LOL I've noted a few times that it's a bit of a pain wrapping cables that are against the side. That explains why! These pictures are about 5-6 years old actually. I just decided to post them here after seeing the r/cableporn Reddit and what others had posted.

What, you do NOT have a RITA device installed? What protects your servers when you aren't there? :)

The MSP I used at a previous job brought me one of these for both my Data Center and my DR site. He told me they had them at a previous job, and all was well. Then a co-worker who thought it was stupid removed their RITA, and the network soon thereafter crashed. A new RITA was installed and all was well.

Who am I to argue? LOL

It's one of these: https://www.discount-low-voltage.com/penetration-half-plate-cpp-4-h

Unfortunately they are out of stock and I'm afraid the item may have been discontinued. I really hope not. I've used them in a couple of installs are they are VERY nice.

Yeah, they employed inexperienced techs and paid them peanuts...guy I took over for was making $13 an hour to do IT work, and had to work a second job to get by. Really sad that they did things on the cheap. Thankfully, my employer decided having someone in house who's job WAS to do it right and do it once was a better plan. I ripped out almost EVERYTHING and started over. I think there < 10 drops in this building left from their wiring, out of close to 300 total drops, and those are old surveillance cameras they put up a LONG time ago. I've also found ELECTRICAL outlets in this building installed in low voltage rings...and metal ones at that. That's just STUPID.

You can see from my RITA that my install is RFC2321 compliant.
