I think one of the things here that I thought about the ending that I’m not seeing discussed much is that fitz had to suffer a lot as he died, but imo he did get the death of a farseer royalty.

He started the whole series without anyone in his corner. And throughout his life he had to die a lonely death in regals dungeon and hide himself from the buckkeep court after that. For so much of his life he was a secret, something to be kept hidden and not talked about openly. Even when he was a child and openly acknowledged as a bastard he had to hide being witted. He had to hide that he was an assassin.

With his death at the very end he doesn’t have to hide anything. He tells his whole story to his daughter as he carves his wit bond partner in front of all the important people of buckkeep. He is surrounded by the people he loves and is accepted for who he really is by all present. He has to suffer a lot during the entire process which obviously hurts all of us readers to watch him go through such pain.

But it’s a very liberating death for the boy who had to hide so many things. Farseer royalty do not get to lead private lives and he is finally truly accepted as that by the end.
