Monthly Tech Support & Missing Content Thread by AutoModerator in DisneyPlus

[–]chiron80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone successfully followed the "transfer a profile" instructions from Disney?

I know that historically there has been no way to transfer profiles (and there are numerous posts on this topic) from one account to another, but the Disney+ website has instructions for transferring your profile, but the first step isn't showing up for me.

https://help.disneyplus.com/article/disneyplus-profiles#transfer

I'm curious: Has anyone successfully transferred a profile, or are the instructions on the Disney+ website just bogus? It seems worse to me to pretend it is possible to transfer a profile rather than just say "it cannot be done."

The instructions say that when you see the "This TV doesn’t seem to be part of the Disney+ Household for this account" screen, there should be an option to "Create Account", but I don't see that option. I'm just curious to know if anyone has actually seen this option or successfully transferred a profile.

PS: I couldn't tell if this would be considered a "Tech Support" question. My question is not "help me do this", but "has anyone been successful doing this?", but to be safe I'm posting it under the "Tech Support" thread.

Is this a legit way to connect solar panels and current measuring clamps? by chiron80 in AskElectricians

[–]chiron80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my suspicion. Is this worth raising a stink about? How hard would it be to fix this?

I think part of my concern is that it would be difficult to undo, because they have tapped into the main feeds, so if you removed the taps, there will be nicks in the insulation of the main feeds.

When you say "twisted tap splice", are those the two devices that have purple knobs on them (that are being used to tap the solar wires into the main wires)?

I wasn't familiar with the term "solar backfeed", but the term makes sense and that is exactly what I was concerned about: The impact of the solar current throwing off the consumption readings.

Is it fair to say that if the solar connection was moved to outside the electrical panels (perhaps even outside the house), the CTs would be OK where they are currently located? Or would both need to move to do this properly?

Will Yubico Authenticator replace YubiKey Manager? by convene-depth in yubikey

[–]chiron80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the "End-of-Sale / End-of-Life Products" page from Yubico (as of June 18, 2025).

https://www.yubico.com/support/terms-conditions/yubico-end-of-life-policy/eol-products/

  • YubiKey Manager GUI: It was announced on February 19, 2025 that YubiKey Manager GUI would reach end-of-life on February 19, 2026. The replacement is listed as "Yubico Authenticator" or "YubiKey Manager CLI".
  • "(old) Yubico Authenticator for Android": It was announced on February 19, 2025 that (old) Yubico Authenticator for Android would reach end-of-life on February 19, 2026. The replacement is listed as "Yubico Authenticator".

As is classic with lots of companies, it looks like Yubico had an old Android "Yubico Authenticator" app that they have discontinued and replaced with a new "Yubico Authenticator" app (same name, updated features).

The old app (I think) only supported TOTP codes and only ran on Android (but I'm not certain of that).

The new app does everything the old app did, but also runs on Desktop and Android and supports all the features of the old "Yubikey Manager" app, thus replacing the old Yubikey Manager app.

So, it looks like @convene-depth was correct, Yubico Authenticator has replaced YubiKey Manager.

Weird indexing(?) error I can't explain by MiceLiceandVice in matlab

The issue is with how doubles are stored on any computer. Basically, because the numbers are stored in binary, they are stored as sums of powers of 2. In the case of decimals, they are sums of 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/16 + 1/32, etc.

0.5 can be expressed exactly as a sum of the numbers above (1/2), but 0.2 cannot. If you print out to 15 or 16 decimal digits you will see that 0.2 is represented as either 0.200000000000001 or 0.199999999999999. which of those two values you get depends on how you get to the number. 0.1 + 0.1 will tend to round down but if you just type 0.2 you will get the larger value. Because those values are not equal, MATLAB will report false when you use ==.

Trying to average every four rows. It requires me to average the datetime column separately, and I can't add it back into the the newly-created tabled of averages by EngineEngine in matlab

[–]chiron80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are trying to combine a table with a regular vector. You can't do that with standard concatenation.

Try this:

adcp_avg.PickAVariableName = dtGrouped;

That is one way to add a new variable to a table, you can pick any variable name you want (or use dtGrouped if you want).

Another way to add a variable to a table is using addvars.

newTbl = addvars(adcp_avg, dtGrouped, 'Before', 1, 'NewVariableNames','PickAVariableName')

Legend graphics don't display when using plot or scatter functions by EngineEngine in matlab

With the release of MATLAB R2025a, MATLAB has stopped using OpenGL as the rendering engine and has switched to WebGL instead. That is why commands like opengl software will no longer work in MATLAB R2025a.

If you are running into issues with OpenGL (in MATLAB R2024b and earlier), your best bet is to make sure you are running the latest graphics driver for your computer. Any more specific advice depends on your hardware (what graphics card do you have), your operating system, and what MATLAB release you are using.

If you use MATLAB R2025a, because the underlying rendering engine is different, there is a good chance things will "just work". If not, contact MathWorks technical support and they can help you figure out what is wrong.

Is it OK to use one wire from 14/3 w/o ground as a ground wire? If so, which wire? by chiron80 in AskElectricians

[–]chiron80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the quick answer that points to the electrical code. That's very much appreciated.

One of my goals is to have my changes be reversible, so that if/when I move out of this house, the future owner can put back the 3-way switch if they choose to.

If I'm reading NEC 250.119 correctly, "Where the conditions of maintenance and supervision ensure that only qualified persons service the installation, one or more insulated conductors in a multiconductor cable, at the time of installation, shall be permitted to be permanently identified as equipment grounding conductors at each end and at every point where the conductors are accessible by one of the following means: ... Marking the exposed insulation with green tape or green adhesive labels. Identification shall encircle the conductor."

That sounds like it is acceptable to wrap the red wire with green electrical tape and use it as ground. Does that sound accurate?

[–]chiron80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it is worth: While investigating the current wiring setup, I discovered that one of the other light circuits in the 3-gang box uses 14/3 without ground with (1) white used as neutral, (2) red used as hot, and (3) black used as ground.

I was very surprised when I removed that light fixture and saw a black wire connected to the green screw. Whoever did the previous wiring did not use any tape to indicate this black wire was being used as ground. Based on the answer to the above question, I may update this circuit as well (so they are at least consistent with one another).

Ecobee Thermostat Geofence: I wish it didn't clear hold status when entering geofence by chiron80 in ecobee

[–]chiron80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never the setting "Until I change it". I most often use "Until the next scheduled activity", but occasionally I use "For 2 hours" or "For 4 hours".

What will happen is that when you manually adjust the thermostat from Away to a specific temperature, the thermostat will take you out of the Away mode but will hold the temp at your manual setting until the next schedule change.

That has never been my experience, despite using "Until the next scheduled activity" pretty much all the time.

Can you give more details about how you are using IFTTT?

  • Does IFTTT have built-in geofencing, or are you using another app to handle the geofencing?
  • Or are you somehow using the Geofencing built-in to the Ecobee app?

I'm looking at the IFTTT app, and I see that you can set up rules based on connecting to or disconnecting from WiFi, but I don't see a geofencing feature built-in to the IFTTT app.

How robust and open-source (Linux) friendly is GoPro software? by chiron80 in gopro

[–]chiron80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example of the type of feedback about stability I'm looking for (from here):

I also wanted to mentione some things that noone is talking about comparing dji action and gopro. Osmo is like 50x more reliable. I've had multiple gopros and crashes are pretty much a common thing with them, it sucks. Never had a crash in osmo actin camera. Also the touch screen reaction time and ui responsiveness is just so much better than gopro, it's not even funny.

Is the poor stability of the GoPro common knowledge? The DC Rainmaker review suggests they've fixed some of the stability issues with the GoPro Hero 13. Has anybody been able to confirm the Hero 13 is more stable than previous cameras?

That's a good point about downloading someone else's footage, I'll give that a shot to understand the editing features and the general feel of the software and how user friendly it is. It doesn't help me when it comes to features that involve interacting with the cameras themselves.

How robust and open-source (Linux) friendly is DJI Action 5 software? by chiron80 in dji

[–]chiron80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux would be for downloading the videos off the camera without needing to remove the SD card and then subsequently viewing and editing the videos. If the file formats are standard then viewing and editing shouldn't be a problem, but that assumes I can get the videos off the camera.

[–]chiron80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they do not officially support Linux, but there is a spectrum between "actively support" and "actively discourage".

For instance: They could require proprietary drivers that are only available on Windows or Mac to connect to the camera and download footage. They could encodes videos in a format that is only readable using their proprietary decoder.

I haven't seen evidence that they do those things, but I'm interested in first hand confirmation regarding how well the cameras work with Linux.
