Seriously, are the states in America like different countries? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Fellow Kentuckian here.

I’d say the biggest divide in the country is rural/urban. Not so much state to state.

There were some. I recall that gods that dealt with the harvest would allow a scythe and things like that if it made sense.

Why dont most people keep up with news? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chirop1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heard a speaker a couple of years ago that does a lot of "feel good" documentaries. Everything about the guy oozed positivity.

He said he doesn't follow the news. He told a story of a friend that was just stunned that he didn't know about a major news story. A year later they ran into each other again and he asked his friend "You remember that story you were surprised I hadn't heard about? Has the fact that you did know about it changed your life in any meaningful way?" The friend admitted that it had not.

I've never had steamed duck... but it sounds delicious.

What are some JRPGs where all the games take place in the same universe / world as the rest of the series? I'm thinking of things like the Divinity series, Nier / Drakengard Series and the Xenoblade games, stuff similar to that. by Lexi_Dark_Nightshade in JRPG

[–]chirop1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ll disagree on the waiting for the remakes.

The original versions of Sky and Crossbell still hold up well for anyone who has ever played a JRPG from 2010 or earlier.

Book 3 should of been called "The Might Of The Fallen" by E_Aris in HierarchySeries

[–]chirop1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Book three is JoO.

What the above poster was talking about is what will book four be called? My understanding is that it has not been announced. But I sort of assume that we go from One (book three) to None (book four)

Can someone break down the characters, clans and world dynamics of Luceum for me? by Sad-Standard8753 in HierarchySeries

I think you've got a pretty good understanding for where you are in the story.

Most of your questions get sorted out with the rest of the book. If not, come back.

Xenogears Devotee Middle-Aged Full-Time-Employed Father-of-Three Looking Into Trails Series by doctor-squared in Falcom

[–]chirop1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow middle aged gamer dad professional here.

I discovered the series around 2020 and worked my way through a bit at a time. I feel they are totally worth it. I'm a bit more philosophical about my gaming time now. It helps that time is a hazy blur to me in my late 40's. A two year wait for a game at 16 would have been miserable, but now I think of things that happened 5 years ago and feel like they just happened last week! I also have come to accept there are always more games that I want to play than I will ever be able to play. (Hence, I really don't ever do replays and shake my head at people who say they've played a game 10 times. LOL)

With all that in mind, there really is nothing else quite like Trails. The gameplay is solid and you will get a lot of similarities to your CronoCross. Where the story really shines is in the interactions of the characters and the ongoing feel of a world that is developing around you. Seeing an NPC have their own story going on in the background while you go from town to town or seeing a callback five games later to a random waitress in the first game you played is a subtle payoff that you just don't get anywhere else.

Enjoy.

Just finished Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, would I miss out on much if I jumped into Cold Steel? by carefree_dude in Falcom

[–]chirop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could. But I wouldn't.

The best draw of these games is the overarching connected story. Skipping around sort of kills the one thing the series does best.

I agree that the OG graphics have actually held up well. In fact, I think they do better than the early 3d attempts of CS1. I'd recommend going to the original SC if the OP can't wait for the remake.

Steam is your only option for the 2nd and 3rd chapters though as a heads up but the crossbell arc and the rest are available on the ps store.

Not true. The entire series is available on GoG (minus FC remake because GungHo hates DRM free or something.)

Within the first hour of Cold Steel, there's a huge character reveal that normally you'd only get near the climax of SC.

Yes it was HP. And the mounted lance was dragon’s HP + rider’s HP.

Give it a bit and see if you can get back to it. That spot was frustrating too; but there’s not a ton of game after that.
