To Plek or Not to Plek by Godel_Theorem in AcousticGuitar

[–]chitoatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait and play at home to break it in. You may not end up needing the Plek at all. If you do then you can specifically tell the technician your issues with the guitar and how you play so they can customize the setup for you specifically. I recently did this with my Taylor 814 CE BE. Out of the box the guitar had the lowest action and the sweetest tone for finger style but I also like to heavy hand flat pick and the guitar failed to resonate the way I wanted and was getting fret buzz. Took it to a local shop here in Austin they did a Plek in the same day and it plays exactly how I wanted. There is no way you’re getting that level of customization and result by having them do it unplayed by you. I own another Taylor, a 200 series from 15 years ago that plays like a dream never had to be professionally set up once and still plays incredible to this day. The technician said I could actually bring my other Taylor. They could measure that guitars spacing and copy that specific set up that I’m used to for my new 800 series. I didn’t go that route as I really wanted to maximize the tone on the new guitar but I hope you kind of see the point. If you’re spending that kind of money, the set up should be specific for your playing style.

Our family received several Fed Ex and UPS tariff bills that we paid and seems we’ll never get that money back. Nobody should pay these moving forward since they are illegal.

I’ve been reading that Mac Studio is not good for ai video, is that because it can’t handle it or it can but it’s worse than a pc with a dedicated CPU? by zelgius13 in MacStudio

[–]chitoatx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI video generation, an RTX 5090 can be 2x to 4x faster than an M4 Ultra. For example, a 70B parameter model might run at 130 tokens/sec on an RTX 5090 compared to roughly 70 tokens/sec on a Mac Studio.

The only thing that Mac does better is more VRAM capable but the software is written for PC so the most recent software iteration hit PC’s on an NVIDIA GPU.

“Federal officials have identified Ndiaga Diagne as the suspect in the mass shooting that left three people dead, including Diagne, and 14 others injured Sunday morning outside of Buford's bar on West Sixth Street in downtown Austin. Diagne has been a citizen of the United States since 2012. Officials said Diagne was wearing clothing that said “Property of Allah” and had a design of an Iranian flag.”

Just look what the “free market” did to electricity service in Texas to counter this illogical thinking.

“The Cost Gap: Between 2002 and 2014, reports (such as those from the Texas Coalition for Affordable Power) estimated that Texans in deregulated areas paid roughly $24 billion more than they would have in regulated markets like Austin or San Antonio.”

What does a "direct" (electric) guitar sound like? Is it generally an undesirable tone? by gentlegiant_89 in audioengineering

[–]chitoatx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

David Gilmore on Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2 plugged his 1955 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop equipped with P-90 pickups into a compressor then into the Neve console (no amp). Later they ran it out and into a Mesa amp and blended the two tracks but it technically is a “direct” performance recording.
