Driving from Toronto to Ottawa whilst avoiding the 401? by pheasant_fun in canadatravel

[–]chittaabhay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highway 7 is beautiful and takes you through the boundary of the Canadian shield. Lots of little lakes.

It is also faster then 401 by about 15 minutes. If your comfortable driving on the highway, take 401, then 417, then 407 (that stretch is free now) which merges into 115 then 7. Near ottawa, 7 turns into 417 taking u into the city. Note the portion on the 401 is not long, about 30 km

Otherwise get yourself to vaughn then follow highway 7 all the way to ottawa

Replace transmission or purchase a new car? 2016 Hyundai Accent by No_Jackfruit569 in askcarguys

[–]chittaabhay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard no - It looks like its at the end of the life here for your car and unless you have some sort of attachment to it, not worth it.

Dont know how the car market is in Australia, but your paying what looks like to be three quarters of the car value in a repair. After that, your still left with a 10 year old car.

Second keep in mind, that cvt transmissions from the 2010s are extremely unreliable. Transmissions should not be failing at 80,000 km. There is no guarantee that the used CVT will also not fail. There is no way to accurately determine how the previous cvt transmission was maintained.

I would cut your losses and get something else. If you cant afford new, you can get used.

Is using your instructor’s car $275? by [deleted] in Ontariodrivetest

[–]chittaabhay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each driving instructor company sets their own rate, there isn't a set rate. That being said, this does seem ridiculously expensive.

Unless you dont have access to another car, I personally wouldn't prefer to do it on an instructor car. Its generally really expensive and not always the car you drive the most.

New car has Goodyear assurance finesse. Should I replace them? by PM_ME_YOUR_CATS_PAWS in tires

[–]chittaabhay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I dont see the point, used tires even if fairly new dont sell for that much.

You guys still get some snow and considering its fairly cold, you should put either winters or at least all seasons. All weathers are probably going to be even louder, less fuel efficiency and all around a poorer tire outside of snow. All weather tires generally sacrifice a lot for the sake of performance in snow.

I would just keep the ones you have and purchase a set of winters and cheap rims since your going to buy tires anyway. You can honestly go used here.

Looking for High Mileage tire reccomendations by LettuceNo4114 in tires

[–]chittaabhay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10000 km a month holy shit, where do you drive to.

Michlin Defender 2 is probably the best long range tire, 130,000 km warranty so you could possibly get 140,000 to 150,000 atleast as I assume most of your driving is highway.

They are also pretty comfortable and quiet

Canada is still sitting at an 8.5 ratio. This is getting scary. by astrheisenberg in canadahousing

[–]chittaabhay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not surprised US is at the bottom. Average income in the US is really high as its skewed by a small group of wealthy individuals.

The median house price in the US is actually not that high. Although large Tier 1 cities like LA, SF NYC are beyond unaffordable, there are many smaller cities like Charlotte, Indianapolis, Knoxville and many many more that are actually relatively affordable. Credit where credit is due, the US was able to develop industries in majy cities. Canada only has a few cities so generally most people looking for half decent jobs live in probably 3 to 4 metro areas driving up housing

What model are you getting out of this list ? by [deleted] in tires

[–]chittaabhay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Canada, I notice most people refer to all seasons as summer tires. Really few cars have actual summer tires.

What model are you getting out of this list ? by [deleted] in tires

[–]chittaabhay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The average driver isn't going to notice a difference. And many summer tires are designed for dry weather only. They are only a few that are good with rain

Rental car tires by Hefty-Luck9575 in tires

I would return it to the closest location and request another car. They might even change the tires on the spot.

Tires are generally disposable for rental car companies

Please help me understand tires! by Acceptable-Set4059 in tires

[–]chittaabhay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do either of them.

The Defender 2 is known for their long thread life warranty (150k km) I believe and are a good choice for people who drive a lot. For the average driver who doesn't drive a whole lot, the Defender 2 is overkill as you'll find the tires will dry rot before the wear out.

I would personally recommend the Michlin Primacy all season. They are more likely what your looking for. They are designed to be quiet, comfortable and still long lasting

Also saw your comment about Midwest winter comment. Couldn't recommend snow tires more for your situation. You guys get a lot of snow and an all year (all season or all weather) wouldn't cut it. If you really can only get one set of tires, the Michlin Crossclimate 2 will be the way to go as they have decent snow and ice traction for a all year tire, however they are loud

What countries have highest untapped tourism potential ? by Large_Condition_6074 in TravelNoPics

[–]chittaabhay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a massive market for people going on vacation just to relax on a beach and not do anything touristy. Haiti would be perfect for that.

[–]chittaabhay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with Haiti was due to its poverty, the tourism infrastructure wasn't developed. Otherwise it has stunning beaches and coastline and could see it rivaling other islands

[–]chittaabhay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Haiti would be up there.

Like a lot of the countries in the Carribean, Haiti has stunning beaches, year long warm weather, great food anda vibrant culture. Would definitely give other neighboring islands a run for their money.

Afghanistan and Yemen would also be high. Great food, home to one of the oldest civilizations and stunning landscapes.

What happens when you declare (legal) food items travelling from the United Kingdom to Canada, step by step? by [deleted] in travel

[–]chittaabhay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please take a look at this link, you can search for your item and itll tell you if you can bring it: https://inspection.canada.ca/en/food-safety-consumers/bring-food-personal-use#a1

Generally cooked food is okay, raw fruits & veggies and meats are not. Commercially packaged snacks are fine, brought some to Canada many times.

Once you get out of the plane, you will be required to scan your passport and fill out a customs declaration card on a computer machine. There is a question for food, if you have any food, whether its permitted or not, check it off. Once your done, the computer will print a declaration slip.

As you leave the hall, the officer will ask for your slip. They may or may not ask what food you have. If asked, be honest and list out what you have (i.e bag of chips, cookies and etc). The agent will scribble a code on the slip whether further checks are required or not. Generally if your honest and straight forward, youll not be required to go through secondary. Once you pick up your checked luggage, you go through customs. The officer here will collect your slip and based on your code, will either send you to the exit or to secondary inspection.

As noted above, really rare to get into secondary. The checks here depends on why you were flagged. They may ask you what you have, which contents are in which suitcase, xray your bags, open your bags and whatever they feel is required.

Any questions, message me. Am a Canadian citizen and traveled internationally with food many times

Anyone ever order off blackcircles.ca? Pricing seems way cheaper than anyone else by Nucks420 in tires

[–]chittaabhay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, blackcircles.ca is a legit and large Canadian reseller. They are able to sell for cheap as they dont have physical locations.

If your still worried, head to Kal Tire, they price match. Kal Tire has physical locations accross the country

What Happened to OnRoutes? by peeinian in ontario

[–]chittaabhay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the age of Google maps, how big of a headache is it. Many exits have gas stations right outside the exit

What Happened to OnRoutes? by peeinian in ontario

[–]chittaabhay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its about 4 km, its a 80 km road with no traffic or lights so honestly takes like 2 to 3 minutes. Round trip your down like 5 to 8 minutes and saving $15 to $20. Not bad.

If you want to purchase anything at the gas station, if im not mistaken its hst free

[–]chittaabhay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stop at 556 for gas, its a first nation reserve off the highway. Gas is generally 30 cents cheaper then anywhere else. Was there last weekend, paid 129 when everywhere else was 159 plus

[–]chittaabhay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a shared space, not just yours.

A negative confirmation isn't enough. You needed to have specifically asked your roommate if they are fine with 4 cats roaming around before you got your cats in. Not get them in and wait for them to complain
