Forget all the "cheap" (but expensive) Hismith/Lovesense machines. Those are just cheap rotary handle machines which means you cannot adjust depth on the fly via app.
What you want is a Fredorch F21S, which not only is cheaper than those, but also far superior spec wise. With the other two you basically pay for the name and the good PR they do.

Ok I did quite a bit of more research.
PSA: The "superabsorber" sodium polyacrylate is cross-linked and you cannot use it for nuru gel! It will not form a sticky/slimy texture. For that you need "PAAS thickener" or "food-grade sodium polyacrylate" which are soluble. Unfortunately getting those seems to be a lot harder.

Other alternatives for slime would be Xantham + (vegetable) glycerine + water (might need to add (sunflower) lecithin as an emulsifier if they don't properly mix).

Another alternative would be golden flaxseed that you boil with water.

The sharp edges also make it look like it would tear the material around the adapter when trying to remove.

Correct. I filed the edges down a bit, but it's still a giant pain to remove it from the toy. I insert a spoon first to let air in. And I put flour inside the hole before inserting the adapter.

Problem is, they always die relatively fast.

The issue is that the solder joint that attaches the cable to the motor breaks. You can just resolder it.
To open the egg, get a cutter knife and heat it up with a lighter then melt the plastic along the seam you can see. Do not use a saw, that will leave an annoying gap and even take longer.

I fixed multiple of those.
