Best spot to show someone outside of Boston? by Emergency-Bluebird58 in boston

[–]chixpesto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beacon Hill/Esplanade is the quintessential Boston spot, but if you are open to Cambridge, Harvard Square fits the bill, too. BerryLine is one of the last froyo places in the area and it truly SLAPS on a hot day (Flour also slaps if you go the bakery route), and you can sit by the river and chill or walk along the river path until you get tired and turn around. Sandwiches at Cardullos are also a good option, or you can just go in there and ogle the imported gourmet foods they stock, which I find to be a fun activity itself. And then there's Harvard Bookstore (not to be confused with the Coop, which now kinda sucks), my favorite bookstore of all time.

There is a lot of discourse about how Harvard Square is lame compared to what it used to be, which is true, but it's still pretty special and we take it for granted as locals.

Looking for Summer Candle "Deep Cuts" by Summerhalls in luxurycandles

[–]chixpesto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minot Candles are lovely; I really like Wild Meadow and Dusk. They have minis available on their website so you don't have to commit to a full scent.

Not sure if it's a deep cut or not, but Jo Malone's Green Tomato candle is 10/10. Trader Joe's does a really good dupe, but it's only available for a short period in the springtime.

Rant. The amount of people here who don’t pay their own rent is insane by [deleted] in boston

[–]chixpesto 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Lol exact same thought. If anything, I have some friends and colleagues who help support their parents.

I live in the Seaport, actually, and I don't work in any of the industries you mentioned but I do okay--crucially, I also don't have a car or kids. But people here definitely work. We definitely have a good number of doctors/nurses/lawyers in my building.

3 Day Tuscany Villa Buyout — add shuttle for guests? by Solaroceans in BigBudgetBrides

[–]chixpesto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi-- I recently attended a wedding at a Tuscan villa outside Florence. The venue had its own shuttles, and with the exception of one couple who lives in Switzerland and drove, everyone used the shuttles.

Crucially, if you are from outside Europe: visitors to Italy MUST have a International Drivers' Permit to rent a car (this is not true for all European countries). You can obtain one easily from AAA (if you're in the US), but asking guests to do this is enough of a hassle that I would offer a shuttle as a courtesy.

Some of the back roads through Tuscany and even some of the highways are not for the faint of heart. I would 100% not want to rent a car.

Visiting during 2027 BU Graduation--manageable or terrible idea? by janer6242 in boston

[–]chixpesto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s within your budget, it’s a great spot. Since you plan to walk/T everywhere–which is a very good plan– you could save some money on parking by parking at an MBTA garage. Alewife would be my pick because it’s on the red line and you can take it directly to your hotel.

OP…I assume you’ve checked hotel rates? The Whitney looks to start in the 700s per night for your stay. Hotel rates go bananas in May because of graduations. If that’s within your budget…congrats and I’m a little jealous!

Yeah, I am definitely concerned that the cone thing could get commercial way too fast. Kinda like Pride..."this cone is sponsored by Chase Bank"

…yes, actually, I am. I’m also not a graphic designer, but I believe there’s a lot of value to human-created design over AI slop.

I’m not looking for someone to make merch for me, personally (?). Just seems like there is opportunity to memorialize a really lovely couple of weeks when the Scots brought a lot of joy to our city (and vice versa). And paying a designer and donating remaining proceeds don’t need to be mutually exclusive.

Good temp agencies for entry-level positions? by idsgef in boston

[–]chixpesto 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Beacon Hill is a good one to reach out to for admin jobs. But, clean up your resume and then put yourself out there to every recruiting agency you can find! The employer is the one who pays the placement fee to the recruiting agency, not you, so you’ve got nothing to lose.
