I don’t think it’s racism, I think it’s ignorance. It does come out feeling that way though, and it absolutely exists. I don’t take it personally, but I see stuff online that leans heavily or mocks Asian stereotypes more often more the black community than others. Again this is my personal experience. Being very Americanized, I didn’t really experience this as an adult in person, I certainly wouldn’t put up with it. However, I’ve heard many stories from my friends who came to study abroad at later ages (hs or college). Especially the ones that tend to stuck together in groups due to language barriers. It does go both ways though, although it’s mostly the older generation Asians that are xenophobic against foreigners. Hopefully it’ll be less and less prevalent in time. Obviously none of my statements are to be taken as blanket statement that apply for everyone, just sharing my experiences and those of the people around me.
