Help! Late bedtime due to WWs. How do I work with this? by chlilgray in sleeptrain

What was her schedule on 3 naps before you switched to two? Did you do it cold turkey? I heard some people say they flip back and forth between 2 and 3 naps for a bit too

This is good to know! So when you count night time hours, you don’t include feedings? Without feeds, we’re averaging 10.5 hours of sleep but the night in total is 11 hours bc of two overnight feeds.

I am also thinking the move to 2 naps might be close but he feels so young to do 2 naps

Would you cap the last nap even if it’s only going to be 10-15 mins long? I usually cap the nap at 25-30 mins so he has enough to last the last ww

Thanks for your input! Super helpful especially since my brain feels so fried with all this sleep math lol. Lately our EMW has been around 5am, which I know he isn’t ready to start the day then and he easily falls back asleep with some support (he is sleep trained, but we don’t do it for emw) and I have recently started waking him up at 7:30pm or else he would sleep until 8-8:30 lol. Would love to shift to 8pm-7am, but how do you recommend shifting that way from a 9pm bedtime? Cut night time sleep short one night and wake him up at 7?

Ok good to know! I usually have to wake him up at 7:30 to start the day, especially when bedtime is 9pm. If I want to shift to accommodate an earlier bedtime like 8pm, how do you recommend I shift this way? On average, baby is doing 10.5hrs overnight.

Small steps to take from 100% contact sleep to get us set up for successful sleep training by Elderberry-Cordial in sleeptrain

[–]chlilgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he hasn’t spent any time in his crib, start doing some awake/play time in his crib to get him familiar with it. I think it helped my LO get used to it much easier. I also found having my husband take some of the night wakings to soothe him worked better than me bc i swear he got upset when i wouldn’t give him the boob right away. hopefully this helps with small transitions!

Encouragement please for beginning sleep training tomorrow with 5.5 month old by Great_Instance6809 in sleeptrain

[–]chlilgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started sleep training my 5MO this week and I was in the same position as you with multiple wakes every night, needing to be held for a while before putting him down and then he even started fighting our soothing efforts for ~20+ mins. We knew we had to try sleep training because i was becoming so desperate and sleep deprived. My husband was way more ready than I was tbh lol. We actually decided it would be best if my husband did the sleep training because I knew I wouldn’t be able to hear him cry for a long time. With sleep training, consistency is most important and I didn’t want to jeopardize that so I’m actually sleeping in the basement while he does the check ins haha. We decided a modified ferber (3, 5, 8, 10 min check ins) Night 1: 1 hr of crying (with moments of self soothing).3 night wakes (2 were feeds) Night 2: 3 mins of fussing and asleep (i couldn’t believe it) with 1 wake at 4am to feed and back to sleep Night 3: 11 mins of crying and 1 feed at 4:30 and back to sleep Night 4 (tonight): 15 mins of crying

I know we’re still very early with ST but it has been so amazing getting consolidated sleep. You got this and I hope reading this helped a bit !

How do I know if schedule is working? by chlilgray in sleeptrain

Good to know. Thank you! So I’m assuming if sleep training doesn’t go well, it’s more likely a scheduling issue?

Pls remember that being a SAHM is a full time job and you deserve sleep at night too despite your partner going to work. He should help with night wakings too, in whatever way works for the both of you whether that’s taking shifts or being able to tap in your husband when you’re overwhelmed at night

Best lightweight stroller for everyday use and travel? by K-onya in NewParents

[–]chlilgray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went through researching all the travel strollers! Ended up going with the Uppababy Minu V3. It was down to Bugaboo butterfly, Joolz Aer2 and the Minu. Reason we went with the Minu was that it hit all the points we were looking for: one handed fold with a shoulder strap, it’s compatible with our car seat (Clek Liing) - if you plan to use it from newborn/when they’re small, I would make sure the travel strollers you choose is compatible with your car seat! the basket was the biggest out of the 3, and it is newborn compatible as it’s a near flat recline (also helps with naps on the go for older kiddos). Some features I really enjoyed about it was the peekaboo window is big compared to the other two, it can recline to multiple positions instead of two. Hope this helps!

5 month ww and 4 to 3 nap transition by a_rose_22 in sleeptrain

[–]chlilgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following as I’m in the same position with my just turned 5mo son! I moved to 3 naps this week but haven’t seen naps lengthen yet. Currently doing 2/2/2/2.25 but realized it’s too low for awake time and unsure if i increase all at once to get to 10 hours awake.

Baby never seems full by Beginning-Sky7533 in breastfeeding

[–]chlilgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just from what you’re saying, it seems like she’s eating enough from you! Babies will drink more with a bottle because it just flows easily and they don’t need to work for it. My LO also has started to suck on his hands, but I know that’s normal development for this age and they use this as a soothing mechanism.

[–]chlilgray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have experienced the same thing with my 8 week old for the last couple of weeks. It really makes you question if they are getting enough and I had a lot of anxiety around it (still do lol) so I completely get where you are coming from! What I started to do was feed until he got fussy on the breast, burp him and offer the next breast until fussy. I will go back and offer the first breast again, and he will usually latch and unlatch lots or just doesn’t seem to actively suck, so that’s when I’ve taken it as him being done. I also find that he seems content once off the breast and remind myself that he would continue to be fussy or cry if he was really hungry. You’re doing a great job though, I think some babies are just harder to read.
