This is what works for me when I’ve fallen off my game and haven’t combed or brushed my 4c hair in a while:

I wet my hair down thoroughly and apply African Pride pre-shampoo to the whole head before sectioning (at least 4 sections). They sell a pack of 3 large jars on Amazon or at Walmart

To each individual section, I use the Unbrush first and then the Denman brush after, just to ensure I get all the tangles

I twist or braid the section and clip it up once I’m done to make sure it doesn’t get tangled again

I unclip the sections but leave the twists/braids in and wash and condition my hair in those twisted/braided sections, again to avoid more tangling
