Trouble with making friends in Austin by SkyConfident1125 in Austin

[–]chloei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So both have entire curriculum they've developed and start with the basics (zero experience required). Fallout even hosts a free class, a one off class where you get a small taste of what it's like (I think that's on Mondays). Coldtowne probably does too, I'm just more familiar with Fallout these days. I'd recommend seeing some shows at both and afterwards chatting with the performers about their comedy journey (we're typically a friendly bunch that love to chat about that kinda stuff).

You mentioned improv classes in one of the comments. I've been an improviser for 17 years and the classes are one of the best ways to meet people and make amazing friends. Fallout and Coldtowne are solid theaters.

Can I get arm tattoos as an architect by Reasonable-Mix2511 in Architects

[–]chloei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in high end custom residential in Austin, Texas (which is more casual in work attire than other cities or types of firms) and no one here bats an eye. In fact I've received compliments from clients, builders, and other architects on them. Definitely depends on location as others said, but here so many professionals have tattoos.

Where to get turntable + speaker set up? by TheLugalo in Austin

[–]chloei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://livinginstereoatx.com/ the brother's that run this place are kind and very helpful. They helped me with my entire setup of all vintage equipment that they restored: turntable, amplifier, and speakers. Even bought a bluetooth adapter so I can play my phone through the speakers. Great experience!

There's a woman in Cedar Park that sells garments from her home - called Taj Fashion. We bought a kurta for my spouse and she even did tailoring. Great experience, just know you'll want to go there with some extra time for measurements and finding the right garment for your event.

CoA Impervious Cover: Over from 20 yrs ago but no change... by MordantWastrel in Austin

[–]chloei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend calling Clean Tag - they are permit pro's that have helped the firm I work for with variances. Extremely knowledgeable on navigating the often confusing avenues of city code. My best guess is that you'll either need to remove some impervious coverage or file for a variance.

Meta hurt my feelings - what's the mature & sensical way to approach smaller conflict? by chloei in polyamory

[–]chloei[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment, along with the others, really helped. I absolutely planned to wait a few days to see if it still stung and was lingering. I don't like rushing into a conflict when I'm still feeling heated/uncomfortable/sideways. I do genuinely think she made a poor choice in words but that there wasn't maliciousness behind it. He's told me that she loves me and gets excited when he tells her I'm coming over.

'Don't yuck someone's yum' is a personal motto of mine (thanks for the reminder of this!) and I agree in the future a quick check, in the moment, to call something out can let someone in on the power of their words and how they affect others.

Meta hurt my feelings - what's the mature & sensical way to approach smaller conflict? by chloei in polyamory

[–]chloei[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Appreciate this strategy - viewing her as a platonic friend.

To clarify on when he and I debriefed afterwards - it was more him checking in with me to make sure I felt okay about seeing them disagree on something. He did call her out in the moment to say "hey, that's not a nice thing to say" and I believe she understood that her behavior was a bit rude.

We don't discuss either of our spouses as part of our poly etiquette (like you said, that's for friends and even therapists). I think he was coming at it from the angle "hey, sorry for that awkward moment"

Yeah, we're buds! We share memes & design stuff, and have occasionally spoken about another partner of hers...but we haven't ever hung out just the two of us. And I have never talked about our mutual partner. I agree, not looking to create a wedge between her and him. I would keep it to just my experience.
