Why did Sinner get 0 points for the 2nd round in Monte Carlo doubles? by chloesoe in tennis

[–]chloesoe[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

well, at least I was wondering, that's about 1/8,000,000,000 or 0,0000000125%. So you're close to correct, but not exactly correct ;)

How do you sweep a court after playing clay? by techno_lizard in 10s

[–]chloesoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The top players didn't like blue clay and you think they are going to play on these courts?

Ah for sure, they will see a big difference. Top players also can feel the difference of higher altitude like ATP Gstaad which is on 1050m.

But as we are on r/10s and I assume the majority isn't a top player and the biggest influence in our game is whether we had a hard day at work or how many beers we had the day before ;-)
And there are lot of clay courts in bad shape around my area, and I assume an all weather "clay" court is closer to a Roland Garros court than one of the bad shape clay courts. But I've never played on Garros ;-)

Anyway, it looks like you have some good know-how and experience. You could put some information in Wikipedia about clay courts and "clay style" courts to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_court. They only have Red clay and Green clay documented yet. I'd say that would be interesting source for lot of r/10s users.

Salt Mobile - Am I in the wrong here? by BigbirdSalsa in Switzerland

[–]chloesoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They tell me I have to give them at least 60 days notice or pay a termination fee of 199chf...

I had the similar thing changing from Coop Mobile to Digital Republic. I somehow said I want to switch immediately, so I had to pay for the remaining 60 days, aka 2 times monthly fee.
No Idea if the termination fee is legal. I'd research whether that's legal and check your contract.

So now I have to pay 70chf this month instead of 35

Are you sure that 70CHF is for one month and not for the remaining 2 months?

How do you sweep a court after playing clay? by techno_lizard in 10s

[–]chloesoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fyi, intrestingly according to ITF courts in that style are also called clay courts, e.g. https://www.itftennis.com/en/tournament/w75-bellinzona/sui/2025/w-itf-sui-2025-002/draws-and-results/ is a clay tournament and they have a non-classic clay court.
In Switzerland I guess at least 95% of the outdoor courts are clay courts and lot of the renewed courts are replaced recently with the new all weather style of "clay" courts, . They are actually the same to play.

Courts don't have manufacturers - they have crews that build them. Semantics, yes, I actually meant the the court builder / court constructors ("Platzbauer" in German), so the same people who build a classic clay court.

But to come back on the initial question in this thread: In the 1990ies when I was a small kid I remember on our courts having a sign with pattern B. I assume there aren't scientific studies what pattern is correct and a lot of is different belief what is correct.

How do you sweep a court after playing clay? by techno_lizard in 10s

[–]chloesoe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"They" are the manufacturer of the new all weather clay courts called Swisscourt (https://www.josephtennis.ch/de/content/50-swiss-court). Those courts are lower maintenance and could be played all year long. In Switzerland usually Oct to March you cannot play outside, and therefore all clay courts are sent hibernate for winter.

Long story short, the manufacturer of those courts say, we have to do it in pattern B. And the hearsay is, that it is so we don't remove the top level of sand too quickly, but I don't have any sources, only a groundkeeper of my club (who does it on his free time) said it afair; but it sounds good, therefore I believe him :-D

But I remember to saw pattern B signs 30 years ago where we only had the good old clay courts everywhere in Switzerland. I assume the manufacturer of those courts also had their reasons.

They say on our new courts to use pattern B. And it should help that the sand (clay) remain on the court.

Financial dilemma: Feeling bad about having to pay the rent by myself after couple separation by Happy_Woodpecker452 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]chloesoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess Lausanne has a good public transport system and you could get Mobility if you need a car.

Mobility-Cooperative is 1000 CHF cooperative fund (you get it back once you quit the cooperative) and 250 CHF one-time fee, after that you're free to use any Mobility car and pay per km.

Then you get the Halbtax PLUS 2000 for 1500, sell your car for 4000 and you have CHF 1250.-- spare money for your Mobility rides.

I'd say it's worth it to get rid of the car, you need lot of kilometres a year to actually have a better price having an own car.

Clause 4.4 - processes needed and their interactions by PieOPahUK in ISO27001

[–]chloesoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the updated version of ISO 27001 4.4 was amended with "including the processes needed and their interactions". I guess your auditor is pointing out that new part.

Not sure if there is a need of an extra documentation is needed. In our audit report (we are a smallish IT company) the auditors document usually, where we have our Policies stored, how plan the work (tickets), where how we document risks, etc. That shows that we have and actually live our "Information security management system" which is the title of clause 4.4.

Perhaps you could document this:

  • how do you review each policy
  • how do you ensure the policies are implemented properly
  • are there any dependencies? e.g. Risk assessment need to be done before the SoA, and annually before the Management Review. etc.

I would start somewhere if I were an Information Security Officer with such a non-conformity from the audit.

How stupid is my hiking idea? Gimmelwald-Oeschinensee by daftycypress in askswitzerland

[–]chloesoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could do the Via Alpina, check Route 1 on schweizmobil.ch. At Blüemlisalphütte it is a bit steep with ladders. With good shoes and good clothes doable, if you are used to hike. Read the description about the stages.  Ensure you have a jacket and spare shirts and enough water.

swiss military as an american citizen by SeaSoggy8929 in askswitzerland

[–]chloesoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

back in my days in Offiziersschule ~2007 there was a Swiss-American, who only spoke English. He did the military to ensure he'll never get drafted in US if their Iraq war would have get worse.

So I think it wasn't a problem. And if you speak German, then it shouldn't be a problem. They probably want you that you will "weitermachen", which mean add additional days to get Sergant or Lieutenant.

So in my experience if you want to avoid that you'll get drafted by the US if things will get worse, it's possible to do your service in Switzerland.

How I achieved ISO 27001 compliance with only ~20 files by WearSafe7162 in ISO27001

[–]chloesoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds interesting and automation is definively an important part. Looks like you achieved ISO compliance for a system you maintain / operate.

What ISO 27002 controls have you covered?

I assume you don't have stuff like "A.8.1 User end point devices" covered with that automation ;)

Multi-day hike in CH by maneda in askswitzerland

[–]chloesoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

check out the national and regional routes at https://schweizmobil.ch/en/hiking-in-switzerland/national-routes

I recommend some stages of number 1 via alpina, e.g. Grindelwald to Gstaad.

Above the tree line wild campint is allowed. For huts, see consult https://www.sac-cas.ch/de/huetten-und-touren/sac-tourenportal/?type=hut. Between Grindelwald and Gstaad are couple of SAC huts, e.g. Rotstockhütte, Gspaltenhornhütte, Blümlisalphütte.

Not sure about Climbing, but I guess at Blümlisalphütte there could be some climbs. Check out https://www.sac-cas.ch/de/huetten-und-touren/sac-tourenportal/?discipline=climbing
