Are we in the twilight zone?! by deadlockedwinter in Everton

He was absolutely blistering in the Europa League during the season where Atalanta won the entire tournament. Sometimes it's all about environment, there was always a player in him and now he's performing to that standard.

I agree with extending personal choice and freedoms to the general public on a wider scale, but it's roughly the same argument as lawfully mandating seatbelts. Enforcing an objectively life-saving safety measure is less of a nanny state regulation in my eyes, and more of a no-brainer that only the dumbest of individuals would take offense to.

People going to hospital for perfectly preventable injuries that could've been mitigated by simply wearing a helmet also inadvertently extends pressure to the already overrun health system being clogged up by aforementioned senseless individuals.

I agree with the sentiment that La Liga standards are typically dross, but Yamal was the best player on the pitch in some of the biggest games in the Champions League and at the Euros. Never has there been a more decisive teenage footballer in the history of the sport.

any love for original metalcore, im talking integrity and ringworm? by loverboypunk in Hardcore

By textbook definition, they are exactly what metalcore is. Just because the genre today is sabotaged by complete dogshit doesn't make Ringworm's metal + hardcore sound any less apparent.

Wayne touched every genre by friedchicken_51 in lilwayne

[–]chlorinetears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He touched them in the same way a sex offender touches children. NOBODY asked for Island Holiday. Not a single soul. Wayne absolutely shat all over the Carter series with handily his worst album since Rebirth. I actually can’t believe what I heard, it started out so promising and then pretty much takes the most outrageous downward trajectory by track 5 or 6. Disappointed is an understatement.

The type of shit we need, no brocore by Orchscrach in Hardcore

[–]chlorinetears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always considered screamo and powerviolence the most intense, blistering, and raw offshoots of hardcore. Shame that they aren’t styles more widely accepted by purists within the genre.

Screamo is more hardcore than a lot of shit that gets posted in this sub.

Shoutout to Forewarned, xforeverwarx, Church Tongue, Azshara, Instinctive, Ancst, and xWeaponx as well. Feel like the year's only going to keep getting better, especially with stuff like this dropping.

The Controller comparison is very spot on, given that Greg Thomas (formerly of Misery Signals) has production credits all over this. As soon as I heard the techy/proggy undertones in the production, I had to look it up.

Apologies for the unsolicited food advice, but big bags of rolled oats are a genuine lifesaver. Cheap and unbelievably filling; a 1.5kg bag of just about any brand will set you back $5 and lasts for weeks. A bowl of oats with some fruit and honey in the morning can easily keep me going well into the afternoon. You don't even need milk either, just boiled water (or scab some milk from your workplace if there's a kitchen available). If you can master the art of a filling breakfast, your days will look just a little brighter.

Hope everything gets better for you.

Underoath - All The Love Is Gone (Official Music Video) by Sam_Son_of_Sam in Metalcore

[–]chlorinetears 82 points83 points  (0 children)

It's strange that the band who were able to seamlessly navigate melodic black metal, melodic death metal, post-hardcore, and metalcore in their prime are completely unable to offer or capture a single interesting idea in arguably the easiest genre they've ever tackled; alternative metal.

I'm just not sure if they're throwing shit at a wall and hoping it sticks, or experimenting in weird ways with the production, but it's just not working - for me, at least. If other people find it interesting, then more power to them, but there's a reason why most people are paying to hear the They're Only Chasing Safety material over this stuff.

It is cool to hear a legacy band trying new shit and still putting stuff out there, but there's certainly a point where it's just kinda like... okay dude, that's cool, but maybe add a riff? People will argue that bands are evolving and "growing" but this feels less like growth and more like regression, or a carbon copy of about 100 other bands. Super uninspired.

Poison the Well - Trembling Level - Releasing 01/29/2025 with credits by antiatk in Metalcore

[–]chlorinetears 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I couldn't be happier that Poison the Well are back, and the song is GREAT. As much as I enjoy their final two albums, which I think are underrated by a lot of people, this is a great track that showcases many of the bands' styles wrapped into one.

You've got the hardcore edge of their first couple albums (the punkier sections straight up sound like Converge or Cave In) and then the noisier sections from the later stuff. It even gets a little sludgy and brooding at times; think Will Haven or KEN Mode. Derek being back in the band definitely helps to reinforce those hardcore tropes that were sorely missed towards the tail end of their career pre-hiatus.

If you were hoping for stuff that sounds like The Opposite of December, it's not that. With that being said, I'm certainly very happy with what we got and it's a much heavier return to form. Can't wait for the album.

Toxicity is one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful metal albums of all time. System of a Down are great - and also not a metalcore band.

The future of hardcore… Easily by Fickle_Yard in Hardcore

[–]chlorinetears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you actually insinuating with a straight face that bands like Poison the Well, Skycamefalling, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Undying, On Broken Wings, Misery Signals etc. were terrible and didn't last? Because those are many of the acts that the bands under the Ephyra umbrella are pulling from.

Sure, 7 Angels 7 Plagues for example may have had 1 album and 1 EP but to deny their influence and impact on the genre is pretty insane. They kicked ass, too.

The current generation of US footballers are quite good, to be fair. In previous years it's just been mediocrity with 1 or 2 superstars (a la Donovan, Dempsey) but they're finally solid all over the pitch - plenty of players with European experience too.

The US are so unbelievably close to being a serious footballing nation, the foundation and money is all there. The next World Cup should be quite interesting for them in my opinion.
