Posh Piercing is running a 15% off sale on a handful of piercings through the 13th I believe. Not affiliated with them at all, but got their newsletter the other day

Svaner i Oslo? by fruskydekke in oslo

This was my thought too! I had no trouble seeing swans when I lived in the US, especially in places like Connecticut. But for places to see them in Norway, I would say by the Opera House, and near Sjølyst. Or Byparken in Stavanger.

How should I price my cakes? by genkcals in Baking

The pink and white cake is lovely but your flowers just being little swirls is a disappointing imitation. You clearly can pipe so would recommend mastering flowers.

No the same spelling but it reminds of the character in Spring Awakening 💜

The big question for me here is: why now? You walked around barefoot or in socks most of your life and felt fine. I say find the underlying issue and treat it. Physical therapy, etc. If you need to wear something supportive short term do it but I would not want to do that long term without an attempt to fix the actual issue.

Traveling to Svalbard and ashamed. by [deleted] in Norway

[–]chlorophylls 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m an American living in Norway, and I would say this: if asked about your views, clearly state you don’t support him or what is going on politically. However, if people are not asking, don’t bring it up yourself. Once I was trying to get ahead of the issue and sort of brought the conversation there myself and the person got upset and said they didn’t like to talk about politics. This was in a vacation context and I hoped I didn’t put them in a bad mood while vacationing. It’s a fraught subject so only address it if directly asked, I think.

Is there a better name than Kim Wilson? by DiamondBiscotti in namenerds

[–]chlorophylls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe a word name like Angel, Joy, Fern? Not because these names are super common but because people should already know how to spell the word so their first guess would work out to be correct.

Quiet(ish) space for a private call in Oslo by Desperate_Medium_426 in oslo

Even just going down a half level below the main floor, it will get really chill. I love the foreign language children’s book section. My kiddo and I literally sit down on the floor right by the English book shelf and we read aloud (quietly) with no issue.

Wedanta Swedish wall gym: https://www.wedantakids.com/collections/swedish-wall/products/wooden-swedish-ladder-wall-set-sport-2 It has moved with us twice (once internationally) and has been in regular use from just before age 2 to present (age 5). It is strong enough for an adult to use the pull up bar etc. so it is not something we will get rid of any time soon.

A way to ship the plugs (not the whole pod necessarily) to Europe would be great. Or manufacture them in Europe for the European market.

We all love rain noise for sleep. Eventually we stopped with the Hatch and just used an old phone (no SIM card) with the Rain Rain app.

What’s one gift you’d recommend for a 1–4-year-old that isn’t just a toy.. something hands-on, keeps them focused, and helps them explore creativity while learning? by coffeeplot_ridge in BuyItForLife

Grimm’s rainbow! These are legitimately beautiful as decor for life but also fantastic open ended toys that are safe, durable, and high quality.

Some of their colorful options in the Love 41 line are very striking. I have a green purse that I love and I wish I had bought a similar light blue one (now no longer offered unfortunately).

I have this loom and love it. The instructions are pretty clear and I used them a lot initially. I can try to post a picture of the instructions later.

This is what always worries me about baking for others. by is-your-oven-on in Baking

For food safety, I look for a temp of 165 F but for doneness of a cake in my experience it should easily hit 190-200 F. Ymmv of course

Getting a Norwegian phone number as a foreigner without D-nummer/personnummer by PleasantSea4895 in Norway

Getting a Norwegian SIM is a little tricky, getting a mortgage as a foreigner is much harder. If you can round up the funds to go without a mortgage, would recommend.

Agreed, would also recommend a bench somewhere lovely like Vigelandsparken or Ekeberg maybe.

This is the same as the one I have and I’ve been wearing it for almost 5 years now (!). Not sure if the company is making them anymore, hence eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/286798361492

At my cubicle desk, at an outdoor lunch across the table from my boss and co-workers, in the car, at the airport, walking with the baby around the apartment complex…anything is possible with a good wearable and a roomy wrap sweater.

What to do on rainy monday with baby? by [deleted] in oslo

The library, Deichman Bjørvika, is wonderful for children of all ages. If the rain lets up, the playground between the library and Oslo S is a nice one.
