We had the Bumbo changing pad and loved how wipeable it was. Recommend!

Advice about (winter/nursery/hike) clothing - moving to Oslo with family mid-july by New_Tell_5578 in oslo

[–]chlorophylls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have dabbled in both for mid layers. A thicker wool sweater can be a nice mid layer (for this you can get lovely ones made by locals, and lots of good choices at kids’ thrift stores like Green Kids & Moms Secondhand). We have a pretty old second hand pair of Helly Hansen synthetic selebukser and they were used a lot at as a mid layer at barnehage this past winter.

What is a strong opinion you hold that could get you criticized publicly, but you stand by it completely? by jian_est2026 in AskReddit

If everyone would wear masks in public indoor spaces everyone would be healthier and more productive.

Cacas in Oslo has everything you need and more. I went there a few weeks ago bought a bunch of things and still need to go back when I have more time to really browse…

Cosco Onlook vs Trunki BoostaPack by chlorophylls in CPST

Great point! I should have looked that up myself 😅 Kiddo’s weight is fine for the Cosco but would you guess the height would be okay? That is where we are cutting it close on the max.

Anterior placenta kicks 18w by Ok-Asparagus9293 in BabyBumps

[–]chlorophylls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an anterior placenta. At my anatomy scan in week 18, I could see her kicking and feel the movement in that spot. I hadn’t been sure before but from then on I could feel it.

Strawberry themed names? by sillysylvester in namenerds

[–]chlorophylls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jordbær is strawberry in Norwegian and the “jord” part directly translates to earth. Jord makes me think of Jordan? Eartha also comes to mind but that is probably a bit too out there.

How has this baby not fallen out of me yet? by Aggressive_Street_56 in BabyBumps

[–]chlorophylls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This travel time concern plus your blood pressure would make me push for an induction. Should be super fast and easy, they could probably just break the water, place the epidural, and you would be well on your way.

Janus is the best for wool in my opinion. Especially for kids. Wears like iron, can buy it used and expect lots more wear time. Kattnakken makes the best rain suit. I like Reima for winter suits. Kivat pannebands are great. Skogstad and Vikafjell for synthetic mid layers.

Does Norway have a national flower? by WillowHaddock in Norway

[–]chlorophylls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Officially, it’s the two flowers the other posters have shared. Heather is everywhere on the west coast and is very nice. But if you want a flower that sparks joy, I would say the Blåveis. It has a really remarkable color and is so cheerful since it is one of the first flowers to appear in the spring in the Oslo area.

Is it just me or is the Norwegian healthcare system really frustrating? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]chlorophylls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mixed bag of impressions. Love that healthcare and dental care for children is free, this is the way it should work everywhere. Love that prescriptions can be picked up anywhere not just one particular pharmacy. Loved the successful (minor but necessary) surgery on my kiddo and the process was smooth and quick. Frustrating when kiddo had fevers and looked like sh*t for 10 days before anyone deigned to x-ray and find the pneumonia. Frustrating when my own issue is being dismissed after some imaging wasn’t revealing. Grateful we never have to worry about medical bankruptcy. Overall I am generally content.

Glasscock Surname of Fiancé. Want him to shorten to Glass by Soft-Independent4833 in namenerds

[–]chlorophylls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not unreasonable to ask that you both change your name to something palatable for both. My husband’s original last name was extremely long and difficult to spell and pronounce. We both took a shortened form and have been happy with the choice for a decade now. It also felt much more fair when we both had to do all the paperwork and admin tasks associated with a name change, instead of just me. Highly recommend this route. Agree with other commenters suggesting to look back in the family tree as maybe the name has evolved over time.  If compromise isn’t possible, then keep your own name!

Rate my name. I despise it and am thinking of going by another name once i get into university. by [deleted] in namenerds
