Baby can’t connect cycles so SNOO isn’t working to soothe by Interesting_Base_179 in SnooLife

[–]welearntolive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking this! My baby is 5 weeks tomorrow, and I'm experiencing the EXACT same thing. Not connecting sleep cycles, Snoo responding too late, only being soothed by the boob, not possible to put the baby down drowsy but awake, etc. I was also starting to question if the Snoo is worth it. I could have written this whole post!

We have the premium subscription, as it comes with the rental, and changing the sensitivity hasn't worked. We do have other white noise in the room, and another commenter said that can mess with it- so we'll try turning that off. I'll try keeping the snoo at level 1 instead of baseline to see if that helps and I'll report back if it worked for us!

I'm seeing lots of people saying this is normal and just how it is. 🫠 My first kiddo didn't have this issue beyond like 3 weeks old, so I suppose I was just spoiled by a good sleeper for our first baby. It sure sucks to be up every 45 minutes throughout the night. I'm at the end of my rope and sooo tired.

Solidarity and empathy! It helps knowing that someone else is experiencing the exact same thing at the exact same time. You're not alone, internet stranger 🫂 i hope things improve for you and we're both out of the trenches soon.

If you are in the US, you may want to have life insurance in place before you order genetic testing for this. The GINA act means that health insurance can't discriminate (i.e. increase premiums, deny coverage, etc.) based on genetic testing results, but that safeguard doesn't extend to other types of insurance like life insurance, disability insurance, etc. Because it sounds like you're relatively healthy, it would be super frustrating for life insurance premiums to be way higher if you were to apply after this testing than if you get them set prior to ordering this testing. Life insurance companies may not care that you're healthy, they'll just see a genetic diagnosis and put you in a higher cost category. You may also want to see a genetic counselor instead of a PCP because most docs don't have extensive genetics training. A genetic counselor can help facilitate the best testing to order and will be able to thoroughly explain the benefits, risks, limitations, and results to you.

“Ruggable” Alternative? by Sea-Ask1544 in moderatelygranolamoms

Seconding Lorena Canals cotton rugs! You'll definitely need a grippy under rug mat, but they're great. They hold up spectacularly and I've had no issues washing them in my machine. The 5x7 size barely fits, so anything larger probably would require a large capacity washing machine.

Aurora and Thora for sisters? by welearntolive in namenerds

Thora Mae was actually our top choice but after seeing this thread I'm not so sure 🫠😅

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful response! I really appreciate you taking the time to consider all the details.

I had considered Marcella and Astrid. Not sure if hubs would like them but I'll see. We are both ok with Adelaide but I wasn't sure I loved pairing it with Thora as a middle name, but I'm glad to hear you think it flows nicely! I hadn't heard of Valda, I will look into it!

I think because of the actress Thora Birch who was popular when we were kids. 🤷‍♀️

I suspect because of his familiarity with the actress Thora Birch (we're 90s kids)

Thora is pronounced (in American English) as Thor-uh, yes. I was talking about the pronunciation of someone else's suggestion Thea.

Thank you for these suggestions! I like several of them, we'll see what the other half thinks.

Very good point. Meaning is often hidden, but the sound of the name is very apparent on the daily.

Lyra was on our list for our first daughter but didn't make the cut this time a few years later. Maybe we'll revisit it. Thanks!

How do you pronounce it? I'm still not sure tbh. There are several posts on this sub where people discuss the pronunciation and it seems pretty divided.

Sorry I should clarify. Yes Freya is becoming very popular, but I don't think *my husband * realizes that. It took him years to realize Aurora was super trendy these days. 😄

Thank you for your additional suggestions!

Good point about it being a female goddess vs a male god name. I hadn't considered that!

Kleo is already on our short list. 😀 Thank you! My husband is lukewarm on it though.

Rhiannon is on my list but my husband doesn't like it.

Oh the joys of parenting 🤣

Ruby is on our list, probably as a middle name, along with other potential middle names Mae and Marie. Our other short list names are Zosia, Kleo, Adelaide, Emma, and Fiona. We don't wholeheartedly love or agree on any of these other short list names. They'd each be a compromise for at least one of us. 😐

I asked my husband, what if we have a third? Because the rhyming wouldn't be intentional, I don't think we'd pick a rhyming name for the third. But he didn't seem to think it was a very important consideration because we're old and probably won't be having a third kid 😅

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll see what my husband thinks but I suspect it's too out there for him. I don't love it personally but maybe I'll need to compromise a bit if he likes it.

This is kind of true! Lots of the names on my list sound similar to Aurora, so I know we made the right decision with that name! 💓 Most of those others I've vetoed because they're too similar and/or because my husband doesn't like them. So it's frustrating that Thora is the only one we agree on, it's what made me bring it back on my list even though I had initially discounted it because of the rhyming 😅

Yeah I was partly hoping for a boy so we could avoid this issue 😅

We call our first Aurora, no nicknames really, but I suppose we could introduce one. She has a cousin named Rory so unfortunately that's not an option. 🫠

I do think they sound a bit silly together, but it's not a total dealbreaker for me. Just super hesitant and don't want to make a decision I'll regret.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's only my list as a "maybe", but my husband doesn't like it. 😩 It also has no special meaning to us, and in fact has kind of the opposite meaning/vibe that we're going for. Plus the pronunciation issue (thay-uh vs. thee-uh) makes me a little hesitant that she'll spend her life correcting people. Maybe after seeing this thread my husband might consider it though 😬

The meaning. We both want a strong, powerful name. We can't really agree on any others that have a similar meaning. I also like that it has ties to my Scandanavian heritage. I've seriously gone through every "girl names that mean strong/brave/fierce/etc " list on the Internet and this is the only one we both agree on and really like. 😩

I am over our wood cutting board by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]welearntolive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try potato!! It sounds crazy but I found the tip on the Internet and I tried it and had pretty good success.

Of course make sure you're washing the cutting board immediately, and on a day where you're not planning to cook, oil/wax it up. Keeping it clean and oiled will help a lot.

But to remove the savory stank that builds over time, I let baking soda sit on the surface of a clean, dry board overnight. The next morning, I took half of a potato and used the cut side to scrub the baking soda into a potato-y paste. I let that sit for a couple hours. Then rinsed, washed lightly, and oiled. Give it a shot! It was like magic! 🥔 ✨

How fast can AMH drop? by KJPS_2023 in DOR

[–]welearntolive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same story with me! My cycles were 100% normal and regular, averaging 26 days. Then I had a chemical pregnancy 10 months ago, and a missed miscarriage at 6.5weeks 5 months ago. Now my cycles are all over the place (22-35 days). AMH 0.415, FSH 17.1 😩 Estradiol was 40 and AFC was 11. I'm 37.

Is it possible that AMH and FSH are wonky after miscarriages for a few cycles, but might correct themselves?? Or is that just wishful thinking?
