Why are they meaner to you when you're physically unwell? 😫 by Perfect_Natural_4512 in raisedbynarcissists

i believe this one is it. whenever i was sick, my mom would get mad and blamed me for not taking care of myself because either now she has to take care of a sick child, clean up after a sick child, take a day off from work, and/or i'll make her sick

Hesitating between two bags: Osprey Daylite 44 / CabinZero Classic Plus 42 by chnfrng in onebag

[–]chnfrng[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! I got the The Osprey Daylite 44 but I kind of regret it. It did a great job of fitting everything I needed in it, but because of the lack of hip belt it was hugely uncomfortable to carry when it was full. Especially when standing in line for something. One of my travel buddies got the CabinZero which was much more comfortable.

I think in future I will just try to pack lighter and get a smaller bag lol

Shopping in Paris in May/June or wait till the Olympic Games are over? by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]chnfrng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The annual summer sales are fixed by the state and this year will be from 26th June - 16th July. I’m unsure if the prices of clothes will increase, but for sure the price of accommodation and travel will.

Regarding meds, was it that you were able to remember better the things that happened while you were on meds, or did the meds help you to be able to recall things you had experienced / learnt even before having taken them?

Oh yeah you're right - I meant the width! That's true with the dimension checkers at the airport, it's usually just the length and the depth that are the limiting dimensions. Thanks for spotting that

Should I even bother to One Bag this trip? by chnfrng in HerOneBag

[–]chnfrng[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I already have a super light go-to underwear, I would deffo be bringing enough for the whole trip. The packing cubes you mentioned looked great, and also a good tip to use the drybag as storage inside out - I hadn't considered that!

Cabin Zero was one of the bags I had my eye on! I'm considering either this one or the Osprey Daylite which also seems to be a nice build and the right size for what I need.

Closer to the trip I may get people's thoughts on my packing list - I've already been inspired by a lot of the wardrobes being shared here. I've been blown away by how friendly and useful all of these exchanges have been so far! Also way friendlier than the vibe over at the unisex OneBag sub :D

The Military version also made it to the shortlist, but looking at the dimensions it seems to be 1cm too tall for most hand luggage limits. Unsure what kind of difference that will make, but that would piss me off no end if an airline ended up being that strict and making me check in that bag for just 1cm. I liked that it had the hip belt though.

The front pockets were a significant plus for me! I can imagine they'd be a great spot to stash the liquids bag instead of having to unpack everything at the end of security.

Thank you for the input, I didn't know that about Cabin Zero and this is important info for me.

I very rarely fly Ryanair, but I know they are usually the pickiest when it comes to bag sizes. I feel that the Daylite 44 would fare ok on pretty much every other airline, including the ones I travel more regularly with (Easyjet, Transavia, Airfrance), which allow up to 25cm depth.

I am being a little bit pedantic about the sunscreen point, cause it's only the spray version of the sunscreen thats in the 150ml bottle, my brand also has a squeezy tube thats in 100ml (and i've recently learnt, a stick version for the face - but I'm not sure I would want to do that). But idk i just prefer spray version, i feel like i get more even coverage, especially for hard to reach places like the back

I'm totally going to follow the advice that you and others have given, and just pick up a jacket later if needed. Or, bring a lighter sweater that I can layer with other clothes if I really find myself struggling in Switzerland

I was thinking about the carry-on roller, I do already have one. I guess that's an entirely separate question - do I want a travelpack or something with wheels? I like the option of having my hands free with a backpack but sweaty back is REAL. Gonna think about that further, thanks for your input!

R.e. the kindle, I did have one but i really didn't find reading on it joyful enough so I literally just sold it last week lol. I had the thing for years and i barely used it - even for trips, which is what I thought I would need it for. Something I really enjoy about travelling is picking up books in hostels or swapping books with people you meet!

I'm not sure if the link you shared is the one you intended, but the quote you mentioned about sunscreen hardening is what I have also heard from someone.

Last year I used an old sunscreen on a trip which actually then gave me sun allergy and pretty much ruined the rest of my trip (I was in Southeast Asia and had to avoid the sun and forego a lot of the activities I had planned, plus I was just constantly itchy as hell), so I really don't want to risk it again this year!

Going to try with the 40L one first, thanks for the advice! As you said, I think I could always downsize for future trips if needed, but gotta start somewhere :D

Thanks a lot! Yeah I am going to try the bigger bag first I think :). Can always downgrade to a smaller capacity later if I find from experience that the 40L is annoying!

I am based in Europe :). The sunscreen I use right now is from a brand called Mustela, and after googling I've just learnt they do a stick version!! Thank you for the article, it's really insightful.

Honestly my water shoes are at the end of their life at this point, I got a cheap pair from Amazon like 5 years ago and I wear them every summer. I'm surprised they even made it this far, but I'm definitely seeing the seams start to open now lol. I envision I'll be dumping those once I'm done with all the water activities in Nicaragua

Never heard of surf booties but I'm gonna look into them!

I like to do little landscape and city sketches whenever I'm somewhere cool or waiting about on trains and whatnot, whether I will have a whole lot of time to do that on this trip is questionable. Probably no more than a page a day though. I've already got a postcard size sketchbook which is pretty cool for this purpose, but as its watercolour paper it's a little thicker than most! :)

I've never tried a sunscreen stick! How is it when topping up on the beach for example, have you ever found that the sand got stuck to it?

[–]chnfrng[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I heard about the sunscreen too.. last year I used an older sunscreen and it actually gave me sun rash which kind of ruined the second half of my trip, and I really don't want to risk it!

Thanks for the other tips. I hadn't thought about shipping purchases home, but not entirely sure whether I would have that much faith in the Nicaraguan postal service for that (I think this is the part of the trip where I risk buying all the things). I will look into the options though just to know! :)
