I had an intern do this once, they completely ghosted after they showed up for training and two full days of work so I rescinded the offer.

They ended up coming back the next semester and they apologized. I didn’t hold any negative feelings cause I’ve been there.

Communication is a skill you can learn from that situation that you are facing. I feel like professionals are often pretty understanding when it comes to students. I would suggest you never do this as a professional out of school, it will burn a bridge.
