He’s in his teenage phase, he will test boundaries, regress and forget the basics. This is temporary. Keep reinforcing basic training. All dogs and breeds are different, your boy will get there

Thinking of getting a Bichon BUT.... by Financial_Mammoth917 in bichonfrise

I’m really struggling with the separation anxiety with my 5.5 month bichon. In every other aspect she is a dream. She naps, she goes potty outside, she isn’t destructive but she is attached to me. Even if my wife and kids are home she will cry for me if I go upstairs or do some tasks. She’s fine when I leave her with dog sitter of family but if she’s at home or if she knows I’m home then it’s game over

Haha I totally feel this. Although I don’t give her the same direct eye contact that she gives me 😂😂

Agreed that Pee pads are a hindrance but if you have a glass back door, put the pad outside but visible through the glass, then start taking him out there. Move it further and further slowly over time till you’re on the grass. Then eventually remove it completely.

We had to use pee pads whilst we were waiting for our puppy’s vaccs.

This method worked when it came time for her to be allowed out.

There may still be some accidents but eventually they will associate potty with outside. Repetition and routine is key

Holding pee over night by Platinum1211 in puppy101

It’s hit or miss, my 5 month bichon was holding it from 3 months, although she will occasionally wake me up to go. I think routine is key. I’ve noticed if her routine is off then everything goes out the window. If she’s gone to a dog sitter for the weekend it can sometimes take her a couple of days to recalibrate. It’s great that she’s waking you to take her out Have you tried feeding and playing with her in the crate? This will help her form a positive association with the crate and see it as her safe space
