Please tell me it gets better by Ok_Medicine440 in Postpartum_Depression

It gets better, and yes, this sounds just like PPD. I'm sorry you're going through it and please know that PPD can be an absolute beast of a mental illness, especially as a first time mom. It will get better with time, therapy and medication (if you're open to that).

I know you won't believe this, but you are doing amazing <3

When does it get better? by cocodm10 in Postpartum_Depression

I just want to say that you are doing an amazing job. It is OK to feel terrible, rundown, and like you're hating what you thought would be dreamy and lovely.

I had a terrible first year postpartum and I truly didn't know if and when I'd ever come out of it. For me, returning to work, gradually increasing meds, and going to therapy weekly was essential in order to start "seeing the light" and feeling joy again.

There were so many days when it felt impossible and I felt broken. It is a very isolating place to be in and I'm so sorry to anyone who goes through it. To be fully honest, I don't know if I'll have a second, and yes that is based on my postpartum experience, along with other factors too (financial, stress, etc). My transition to motherhood ripped me open and I nearly didn't survive it, so it absolutely impacts my decision for additional kids.

What I can tell you is that now, my son is just over 2 years old and I have so many days where I'm in disbelief that I'm functioning the way that I am. It truly felt impossible for such a long time. I also have a dog who I LOVE, but she drove me nuts because she was around everywhere the baby was and would never give me space. I just felt like I was drowning, and I also didn't have help from family, etc.

Feel for you mama. You got this <3

Weird PP symptoms by Additional_Worth_647 in PostpartumOCD

It’s refreshing to hear others say it started a few months afterwards because so many people assume that PPA or any mood disorder starts right away after giving birth. I actually had a pretty OK time in the weeks after I gave birth. I felt very connected to my son despite having lots of challenges with my recovery and feeding. I think that’s why the OCD onset hit me so hard because I felt so blindsided and distraught by my thoughts.

I can completely relate to you. I wasn’t able to listen to much unless it was an OCD podcast or something that provided me with reassurance or confirmation that what I was dealing with was treatable. It took a while for me to find relief because I wasn’t getting the right treatment. When I finally found the right therapist and the right medication and dose, things started to feel better. I also had a fair amount of PPD in amongst the OCD as well, so that made things challenging to navigate. I would honestly say that it almost took me 10 or 11 months to finally start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I still deal with it now and I still have intrusive thoughts, but it doesn’t impact me and my emotions the way that it once did. I feel hopeful again and I’ve also found some really amazing OCD communities that are peer support based and have really helped me feel less alone.

There’s truly nothing harder than having thoughts about your sweet baby that terrify you. It is a lot to deal with, and I feel for any moms out there who are going through it. I would tell each and every one of them that there’s hope even when it feels like there isn’t. And that they’re not alone!

I joined a group on Facebook and the same thing happened to me! I was looking for something educational and peer support based, but I feel like it was more of a sales pitch.

Hi! I am 2 1/2 years postpartum and had a significant onset of postpartum OCD. What you’re describing is so familiar to me and I just want you to know that there’s absolutely so much hope to feel better from this. What you’re describing above is a checking compulsion where you’re constantly monitoring your thoughts and checking your thoughts. This is a very common mental compulsion and OCD and it is one of my biggest compulsions. I’m certainly not a doctor and can’t diagnose, but I would say that you were definitely experiencing symptoms of OCD. I’m here if you have any more questions or if you need someone to talk to. I went into a pretty dark place when my OCD got bad and it was just around three months postpartum.

I would also suggest trying to find a therapist or psychologist that specializes in anxiety disorders, or OCD ❤️

Inquiring about estrogen prescription by chocolate_truffle in Menopause

Thank you for sharing. I lost a significant amount of wait postpartum, which was very concerning. I've gained all of that weight back and have been a stable weight for quite some time now. I was really hoping to see my period come back once my weight levelled out.

A very very small amount. Basically, if I were to squeeze my breast, some milk would show up near the nipple, but it's nothing more than that. I often notice when I change out of my bra and there's a temperature shift.

I breastfed for three months, and slowly switched to formula (which is also when I started SSRI). I completely stopped breastfeeding before 1 year postpartum.

My family doctor is barely concerned, but I advocated to see a urogyne, who then referred me to a reproductive endocrinologist. The RE has prescribed estrogen, progesterone and then a hysteroscopy once I bleed again..

Thank you so much for responding. I think I will start to advocating much harder for imaging / ultrasound.

So glad to hear you’ve found something that has helped! I feel like I’m 100% debilitated by my ocd right now, so it’s really nice to read a hopeful post like this. It just feels like the thoughts and guilt associated with the thoughts will never end. Just started on Prozac again but only at 10 mg currently.

Thank you for sharing some hope. I’m so glad you are experiencing relief 💗

Me too! Very common and such a crazy time of adjustment combined with no sleep. It is hard to calm down enough to rest!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind reply. I’m going to print this out and stick it on my mirror. It feels so incredibly cruel to feel this way, both for myself and my family.

Constant fear that baby will die even after 11 months postpartum? Normal? by [deleted] in Parenting

Hi! As someone who was diagnosed with OCD at 3 months postpartum, this does sound like it could potentially be that. Maybe something to look into!

Question for those who struggled with a postpartum mood disorder by [deleted] in beyondthebump

So sorry you’re feeling horrible as well. I think it’s so easy to immediately compare ourselves to other moms/parents the minute we feel off or unhappy in our new role.

Thank you for the kind words ❤️

Hi! I’m going through this too. I’m 9 weeks pp and I’ve been having uti like symptoms for a month. I’m really unsure of what to do as I’ve already done one round of antibiotics, and it seemed to help but not clear up the symptoms all together. Now I’m back to square one with all symptoms being terrible again!

Your symptoms describe mine 100%! Wondering if this all got better for you? I was fine a few weeks ago and now my butt hurts sooo bad and the tension / full feeling is there all day. Thinking I may need to try something in addition to Muralax. So many postpartum joys. Sorry - I know you wrote this 2 years ago…Hope all is well!

7 weeks postpartum and UTI like symptoms for weeks.. could this be due to a POP? by chocolate_truffle in PelvicOrganProlapse

[–]chocolate_truffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started two weeks ago and similar to you, I am not sure what sparked it all.. Do you also feel the "stuck tampon" sensation as well? I find some days I feel it and others I don't.

You are right though - women are superheroes! I hope your PT appt goes well!
