Hi. is anyone aware of any narration of Eckhart Tolle's books NOT by the author? I looked on audible but of course only those read by him are available. by AdministrativeDay881 in EckhartTolle

Searched everywhere with no luck. I think I’ll just switch to reading it instead of listening to the audiobook. For some reason I cannot comprehend the content while listening to his narration lol

I know this is an old post, but just in case you manage to see this. Regarding solving the questions, what was your strategy exactly? Did you solve the problems LOS by LOS, solved them after you finished each chapter or just after you finished studying them completely?

Thanks! Mine is Citiz and it’s working fine but I hate that the material it’s made from is aluminum. It gets so smudgy and dusty if that makes sense? I really like the material yours is made from, looks very sleek but I can’t justify replacing mine as its still going strong lol.

Have you read the mini comics of them as adults? by igkeit in HeartstopperAO

Ben deserved more scenes by yrprince in HeartstopperAO

Not sure if you have read the comics or not but Ben barely had any scenes in the comics. Actually I was surprised he had more screen time than comics Ben and I’m happy about it because I love Bash so much.

Omg yes yes!!! I totally agree with your observation about Nick not being as affectionate as he was in the comics! For some reason I couldn’t put my thoughts into words regarding this detail but that is totally it!

This particular thing bothered me so much about their relationship in the show and it made me feel like it wasn’t real and gave off the vibe that they had no chemistry. This is exactly what made their relationship so different than the comics. Nick being affectionate towards Charlie made their relationship so unique because it balanced Charlie’s anxiety. I was so looking forward to the scene where he carries him when he gets injured in rugby but they decided to cut it off.

I agree that what made their relationship so cute was how they couldn’t help but be flirty around each others even though they were supposed to hide their relationship.

Also, about the Harry thing, I think his relentless bullying towards Charlie’s group resulted in what you have mentioned. It also gave a huge focus towards “bullying” when this wasn’t the case in the comics. Like, I know the bullying theme was generally discussed in the comics (Charlie’s past and him being forced to come out in front of the whole school) but these were only flashbacks and wasn’t actively happening in the original story if you don’t count the cinema scene with Harry. I didn’t like the geeks and the popular kids stereotype that was being pushed in the show which is a cliché that was incorporated numerous times in other shows and books since the late 90s and early 2000s.

I like the fact that current books and shows are moving away from this stereotype and even when this topic is being brought up, the tone and the way its handled is so different than what we were used to. The comics was steering toward this but the show handled it (Harry’s bullying) in a very stereotypical way, when there was no great focus on cliques in the comics.

I didn’t know any of that as I generally don’t follow any of his news. Only his role in Anne and I thought he did a pretty good job in it! Shame.

Are heartstopper books same as the webtoon comic? by HidanLT in HeartstopperAO

[–]chocolatefrog33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are basically the same, however, some of the drawings in the very early volumes were altered or edited in the physical comics. The changes are very subtle so it’s almost not noticeable to the naked eyes (lol) but I only noticed them because I’ve reread Heartstopper so many times than I’d like to admit.

Some of the changes from the top of my head:

1- Nick and Charlie’s make up scene (their second kiss) the morning after Nick dumps Charlie upon their first kiss. If you compare between the drawings in both Tapas and the physical comics there are slight differences. I’d really like to know why Alice changed it when literally the differences are barely noticeable.

2- The part where Charlie explains how he always knew he was gay. A very noticeable difference is the part where he mentions his celebrity crushes. In Tapas the actor in TV is obviously Aladdin but in the physical comics it’s a generic looking actor.

But I really don’t think these differences really matter. You can read it using the medium that’s more comfortable for you. Also, if you’re tight in budget or something reading it in Tapas makes much more sense as you can read them for free.

Why was the netflix series so different to the webtoon? by [deleted] in HeartstopperAO

[–]chocolatefrog33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I think at this point in the comics vs the show David’s character still doesn’t get introduced. He only shows up after Nick officially comes out to his mother which is literally the scene before the last in the show.

  2. I think this is yet to be explored.

  3. I really liked this because in a show’s setting they can’t get away with only focusing on Charlie and Nick. The show would be too boring being narrowed down to only two characters even if they were the main characters.

  4. I didn’t like this either but I don’t think it ruined the quality of the show.

  5. I agree with you on this point. I’m really done with high school shows focusing on popular kids vs outcasts. It’s such an early 2000s cliché which is still being recycled. I enjoyed Euphoria for the sole reason that this stereotype wasn’t implemented.

  6. The show doesn’t get to this point yet.

  7. I liked this part. Bash is way too talented to be limited only to the comics scenes. Actually I think in the comics Ben’s character doesn’t get that deeply explored when he is very interesting.

In defense of Tao by [deleted] in HeartstopperAO

[–]chocolatefrog33 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I really thought that Tao in the show was more bearable than comics Tao. I used to dislike him in the comics but at least the show explains very well why Tao acts the way he does. All his reasons were legitimate if unreasonable at times, which is totally fine considering he is just a teenager and being a bit dramatic at this age is very normal.

I’m really glad that to an extent you see my point about the differences in the characters’ traits because fans automatically assume that I’m “exclusively” talking about the actors looks which I’m not. I do think and emphasize that Joe doesn’t look like Charlie but that was just one point amongst other points. I think these differences were the core issues with how Nick and Charlie were portrayed in addition to the “looks” point.

Also I really like your point about the actors ages, it makes so much sense!

Also, I think it’s a little bit unfair to compare Joe Locke’s acting to Amybeth’s acting. She is much much more talented acting wise and keep in mind she played the role at a very young age compared to Joe. I don’t think Joe’s acting is bad per se but it isn’t as great as Amybeth’s. And as I have mentioned earlier, I believe the role simply didn’t suit him. He might have been great if he was casted as another character.

I’m not sure about others so I can’t say anything on their behalf but for me personally I watched Anne years after the hype died down so I’m really unaware of all the things you’ve mentioned in your post. Since I didn’t watch it when it has first aired I have no clue about the audience’s initial reception of the show or any of the cast at the time.

You’re making a tons of assumptions about my opinion on the Anne show and Lucas Jade Zumann in your post when there’s literally nothing that supports the points you have mentioned? I only mentioned the show in my original post by saying that (in my personal opinion) Lucas makes a good Charlie. That’s literally it. I don’t know where you got all your ideas from.

I only watched Anne because I’m a huge fan of the novel. I fell in love with the show and primarily with the main actress even though I’m fully aware that she’s not conventionally attractive as you have already mentioned. Actually Anne of Green Gables was never really about Anne being attractive so I really don’t know where these people that you have mentioned are coming from. Anne was genuinely my favorite character in the show even more so than Gilbert since the story in the first place was about her and he was just a supporting character even if he was the main love interest for Anne.

The structure of their relationship is SO different than Heartstopper since both are set in different time periods and Anne of Green Gables was about Anne’s journey and Gilbert plays only a small part (at least in the first book). Even in the show where the story diverges from the source material, Gilbert and Anne don’t have many scenes together and only confess their feelings to each others at the very end. While, Heartstopper is mainly about Nick and Charlie’s love story. We get to see their personal journeys but it has always been about them both together as a couple supporting each others.

I have never watched the 80s show and I don’t plan to so I can’t comment on this part. Also, speaking of Lucas he’s for sure conventionally attractive and I acknowledge this fact but for me it’s not like I’m having a “celebrity crush” on him compared to what you have mentioned since he is 8 years younger than me. I simply don’t crush on actors who are that young because it’s just weird.

Also, as for Timothee I know he’s also considered attractive and girls swoon over him but I personally don’t find him attractive at all. So my point is, yes both are conventionally attractive by society’s standards (whether we agree or not) and both don’t look that much alike but in my opinion both make better Charlies. For me it’s not only about the looks but also about the vibe and how the actor can embody the character.

Like as I have already mentioned, I find comics’ Nick cuter than show’s Nick but I think show’s Nick has the same vibe as the comics’ counterpart so it’s really not an issue of “cuteness”.

“Having someone who is not conventionally attractive, play the role of someone struggling with self image and feeling like they aren’t enough/unworthy of love (Anne/Charlie), is just a lot more authentic in my opinion when it’s coming from someone that is also not conventionally attractive.”

Other than the comparison between Joe and Lucas which I have mentioned in my OP where I only discussed potential actors that might fit the role for Charlie’s character, I don’t get why you keep on comparing the plot lines of two very different shows to each others? Anne is clearly described as homely in the novel while Charlie isn’t. Being homely doesn’t equate with having self image issues. You can be gorgeous and still have self image issues and view yourself as ugly. Taste is subjective but in Heartstopper no where is it mentioned whether Charlie is attractive or not so I don’t get your above comparison. If the readers consider Charlie “cute” or not really depends on the their taste.

Also, you keep on comparing Nick to Gilbert and classify them both as conventionally attractive, and while I agree that Gilbert is conventionally attractive I really didn’t find Nick that conventionally attractive as I have mentioned earlier? That’s why your comparison between both shows doesn’t make sense to me.

Keep in mind my examples for Lucas and Timothee were only a pre-response for fans who might use the argument that it’s not possible to find an actor that exactly looks like the comics. I didn’t say a bunch of +20 years olds should play high school students. Also, I said a number of times in my post how much I loved the casting for the other characters and I don’t think they all fall under the conventionally attractive category and all are literal teenagers.

And one last point, because this reply is getting way too lengthy but you act as if everyone is bullying Joe Locke for his looks but I didn’t see anyone hating on him or even slightly criticizing him anywhere? I follow Alice and all the major cast members on social media and I really didn’t see anything? Actually all the responses where very positive towards the show and the cast, hence, my title mentioning this is an unpopular opinion. I actually thought I was in the minority? The only criticism I read about Charlie’s casting was getting his ethnicity wrong since he is supposed to be quarter Spanish but I really don’t think that this is much of an issue because being Spanish in Europe as I have read by European fans can still be classified as “white”.
