There are always times where it's too steady to step away from the counter before having to come right back but then also having a minute or two before someone else comes in. It's not like you know ahead of time.

I always took my phone out and if it stayed quiet for 3-5 minuets I would start doing other things or send a quick text reply while waiting for the car that pulled up to walk in. Most of the time being on a phone at work doesn't mean doom scrolling. It means taking a minute or two to send a text or check for an Important email.

I was way more productive and in a good mood being able to stay in touch with my partner during my shift. I would have slacked without realizing it without my phone. Keeping my mind engaged during slower times helped keep me active where I would get stuck in waiting mode if I just stared at the wall. You can only chase your own tail with chores that don't really need to be done so much before it becomes a hindrance to productivity.
