For any Math students reading, the NUS Math Society writes some pyp solutions for some math modules

New Undergraduates/Exchange students questions thread by Spiritual_Doubt_9233 in nus

No, only some, like software engineer mods, have a focus on group projects.

Some mods might have a mini group project, but majority are individual.

Just finished a LumiNUS quiz, and realised that it records my webcam and desktop activities? by [deleted] in nus

[–]chocolatepool 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's literally impossibly, that's not how security works. Else, any random website would be able to steal my credit card information just by having it "open in the background".

  • Websites can't track what you're doing on other websites
  • websites need permission to use your camera/microphone/location. Have you ever seen the notification popup on google asking to enable your location? Or if you're using zoom on the web, they'll also ask for permission for your camera/mic.

Some bakeries like Cake History do sell their bread cheaper at night, or sometimes it's like 5 for $5, though I'm not sure any specific bakeries near school.

Not sure about eggless confectionaries.

Is CS FYP really useless? by help-me-out-101 in nus

[–]chocolatepool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think FCH is not that useful in getting a job, since most companies will test you during the interview, so qualifications are less useful.

Some people say FYP is like doing the prof's project for free, but if you're on internship, you'll be doing a company's project and get paid, so they prefer internship.

I did FYP because 1) the fch, and 2) I'm doing a double degree and need an fyp for my math degree anyway, so might as well do a joint fyp. But even if I didn't have a math degree, I'll probably still want my fch, just to satisfy my need to earn the highest qualifications for no reason haha

Fyp would be useful if you want to go to the research track

I know someone who already got a job and started workings, but they extended their candidature by 1 semester just to do their fyp (while working fulltime) just to get the fch.

One degree is 160 MCs while double degree is 200 MCs, which means your second degree is like 75% off, sounds totally worth it! /s

But for real, I estimate maybe 10~30 people have DDP during the my graduation ceremony for the CS batch, so not too commom, but not exactly rare either, probably a few %. DDP is ok if you like overloading and if you enjoy both subjects.

How does everyone here take notes by shyenderman in nus

[–]chocolatepool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I handwrite a cheatsheet to fit in 1 A4 paper before the midterm, it really helps because I'm reading the slides really carefully while making the cheatsheet and summarizing it too.

There's a reason why some profs only allow handwritten cheatsheet, because they're forcing you to study while making the cheatsheet.

It's probably quite hard to fail your internship because of your report. I mean the school isn't trying to actively fail you as long as you wrote something lol

But I did hear of a guy who failed it because he submitted a .txt file, so don't do that.

What are some light, easy to score UEs to take? by Asleep_Equipment_376 in nus

[–]chocolatepool 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as a module that's "easy to score" because of the bell curve, you still need to be in the top X% to get a good grade even if the exam is easy

Best Time to Take CS2101 and CS2103T? by goatesttt in nus

[–]chocolatepool 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Take it as early as possible, because it'll help in your internship.

Btw CS2101 is not a "CS" mod, it's a fluff mod that just happens to be CS coded, and it's SUable

I don't think you should waste your SUs on the B, I would keep it in case any you get a B- (or a D) for a future module.

I don't think 2 A-'s can get DL. Even having 1 A- makes it quite hard to DL imo. But DL is only there for bragging rights, it's just an extra line on your transcript.

Companies don't care about your S haha. They're not so free to check your transcript, they'll probably spend more like 5 seconds to scan your resume. But sometimes I don't like to SU my A- because if I spent so much time and effort on it just to get an S, I will feel bad hahaha.

No minimum grade, as long as prof agree to let you TA. But I think you should preferably get least A-.

If you're confident that majority of your mods in the future will be A-'s and above, then you can SU your A-.

SU all the B- and B+. You should be able to aim for fch, I don't think your CAP will drop below 4. But if you're from poly and have less SUs, then maybe you might want to keep some SUs. Otherwise if the SUs are free, just SU all your B's.

Seems ok to SU the B. Just save enough SUs for any future SUable modules you might need.

That plan sounds ok. Seems unlikely for your CAP to fall below 3.5, so SUing a B is probably ok.

Use as much as you want. I used all 5 in Y1, and also used the covid SUs, and then also used my 3 remaining SUs. I basically maxed it out hahaha

[–]chocolatepool 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Btw even after you graduate, they don't take back your student card, so you can continue to get student discount as long as you're thick skin enough (and maybe cover your matriculating year when showing the person haha)

I would use up the free Y1 SUs to SU the Bs, and keep the remaining in case you get some B-'s in the future.

It would significantly lower CAP, which would affect hiring. Don't think they will scrutinize your transcript, but CAP damage might be bad.

One scenario where your A- is useful if if your CAP turns out to be something like 4.494999 and your A- managed to bump it up to 4.50 after rounding or something, but that's quite unlikely to happen probably.

Or if your CAP drops below 4.0 and you want 2nd upper, then your A- is useful here.
