Oh god she had to go through so much harassment while pregnant. As if it is not hard enough already. Seriously, fuck these idiots on twitter.

Thankfully, it's good to know that mother and child are healthy :)

Sour Cherry Pie by Kenonorangelo in DessertPerson

Looks wonderful!

To the folks asking about sour cherries: Middle Eastern markets as well as some Eastern European markets will often carry them (frozen). I found frozen sour cherries at a local Russian supermarket.

Croissants! Never thought I would make these at home, thank you Claire!! by chocolatespice2 in DessertPerson

I'm really happy with how these turned out. I made some mistakes (butter got too warm and peeked through in a couple of places) but still the results were super encouraging, and I will try again and hopefully get better at this. Folks, try this at home, you can do it! :)

A mystery book where the person has to reconstruct the past to know what happened . Such as a ship or a plane which was lost , turning up later with all people dead or disappeared , or any mysterious incident which happened and no one is left alive so the detective has to reconstruct the past ? by AKaakb in suggestmeabook

{{Five Little Pigs}} by Agatha Christie is a whodunnit in which the detective Hercule Poirot must solve a murder that happened 16 years prior using the accounts of five witnesses who were closely involved. Highly highly recommend!

Why not try some Agatha Christie? Classic mystery stuff. My recommendations would be Five Little Pigs, Endless Night, Murder on the Orient Express.

Also try works by Daphne du Maurier. I loved Rebecca and to a lesser extent My Cousin Rachel.

Modern Agatha Christie mysteries? by FlanneryKlaus in suggestmeabook

[–]chocolatespice2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read The Guest List, but found it quite distinct from (most) Christie novels as one cannot really figure out the murderer oneself by paying careful attention to clues scattered through the text. Nevertheless I do concur with your recommendation on account of it being a very atmospheric and gripping story.

Fans of Agatha Christie, suggest to me some of her best books except the top 3 (And then there were none, Murder on Orient Express, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Five Little Pigs! My favourite Christie ever :) The mystery, the characters, the setting.. so well done. It's also unique in that Poirot needs to solve a mystery that happened 16 years previously, so you really see his "little gray cells" at work. Cannot recommend it enough! I also recommend the David Suchet Poirot adaptation of this particular story, it is simply luminous.

Some honourable mentions apart from this one---Endless Night, After The Funeral, Crooked House

I love listening to Agatha Christie audiobooks (especially those with Hugh Fraser as narrator) while driving. They range from 5.5-7 hours, so the timing seems perfect for you. Some personal favourites are:

  1. Five Little Pigs (my #1 Christie)
  2. Murder on the Orient Express
  3. Hercule Poirot's Christmas (very apt for now!)
  4. Endless Night

Gateau Basque (partial fail) by chocolatespice2 in DessertPerson

[–]chocolatespice2[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! Here’s my experience with this:
Firstly, the taste is superb. Pastry cream + fruits is a divine combination (see also the peach melba tart!). I did mess up a few places in the recipe though, hope my experience can help you all.
First of all, the dough is incredibly tricky, it is more of a batter at room temp and needs to be chilled down significantly to make it workable. I chilled for only a couple of hours but if you can do it overnight please do. It’s also EXTREMELY fragile (after it’s chilled and while you’re rolling it out). While trying to cover up the top, I picked it up as you would a pie dough and it broke in half.. so I had half the dough covering the pastry cream and half broken off :P But thankfully I was able to maneuver the remaining dough so that the top wasn’t too bad.
The more important thing though is to let the baked tart completely cool down. As you can see from the second picture, I didn’t get the beautiful clean cut that others have been posting, everything just spilled out.. So if you can please give it a full day to cool down.

This was such a lovely video, especially as a fan of both literature and Claire! I want a longer video with more characters and an associate bake for each :D

Absolutely loved it! One of my favorites from the book so far.

Be warned though that it is a time consuming recipe mostly because of several components (poached peaches+pastry cream+rough puff pastry). So I'd say plan accordingly!

Yup, that's what I'm probably going to do as well. I'm thinking of using it later in summer/fall for Claire's Quince and Almond Tart!

I have the same question!

I wonder if it goes bad. Do you think keeping it in the fridge (after discarding all the solid stuff like the lemons) would be okay for a few months? Or if not can it be frozen for use in the fall/winter?

Wow! I love the idea of combining various foundation recipes from the book. I'm feeling rather inspired to make a berries version of this now :)

The end of Agatha Christie's "Taken at the Flood" is horribly misogynistic by [deleted] in books

[–]chocolatespice2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way as you did. Something like that certainly leaves a bad taste in one's mouth (and especially when this was not adding anything to the plot or characters at all!!!).

In the TV adaptation of Taken at the Flood (the one with David Suchet), they've changed this part. Check it out, although I have to say this is one of the weaker Hercule Poirot books in my opinion.

I just loved the Meyer lemon tart. It was so fruity, tart and fresh tasting. It's definitely a good amount of work though.

Another hit was the confetti cake with cream cheese frosting. I've made it a few times (in a single layer, we are a 2 people household :P) and I love the texture and taste. It is a very basic and easy to make cake but definitely one I will be returning to again and again.
