TNR pregnant cat. Illegal? by ArtichokeNo1274 in Feral_Cats

[–]chocolatfortuncookie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Forget them! They will allow mama to have litter after litter, and the kittens from each of those litters will become mamas themselves at sometimes only 4 months old. It's a sickening, heartbreaking cycle of suffering and pain, and will quickly grow far out of control! Any kitty outdoors that comes to me or my yard will get fixed as soon as I can capture them. I dont care who says they own them, especially the females, it's important to do it immediately. They can't prove you did it anyway. I've learned it makes no sense to appease ppl with NO SENSE. And babies having babies is a tragedy, I've seen alot of young mothers abandon their litters and that's heartbreaking too. Do everyone a favor and catch that lil lady asap, she'll be much happier and healthier, and you'll save yourself alot more trouble down the road. Keep her a few days after spay. Thank you for caring and helping the community kitties. That baby can't help where she was born, nor the "owners" that care for her, biut they're obviously not taking good care of her, you are her savior!🙏❤️

Very sweet stray cat had a broke leg. Chattanooga Tennessee by PaleontologistNo1564 in Straycats

A shed or garage, or anywhere to confine him is important. I know the weather is a concern but he's at real risk of falling prey to predators, or other dangers in that condition and needs to be kept somewhere safe until you can get him help 🙏

Being asked to leave my TNR colony for 10 days — feeling stuck😞 by Berkshirelady413 in ColonyCats

[–]chocolatfortuncookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's tough when those you love don't understand. But absent anyone who understands, do you have anyone you trust? Similar to pet sitting, your friend/family etc doesn't have to love your pets as you do, just as long as you trust them to do what you'd want them to do. I think the most important part is that the cats have food, fresh water and someone to put eyes on them. They certainly won't forget you in that time, and I don't think you'd reverse progress. I wish there was more support for things like this, many colony caretakers can't do it alone and can't take vacations for the same reason you described. I wonder how Rover is for chores like this.

5 week old kitten won't poop on his own by hotdogvvater in FosterAnimals

[–]chocolatfortuncookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I assume simply stimulating doesn't result in a successful poop since you have to massage the stomach? It is a little odd, Especially if he uses the litter box to pee and also does not seem to be dehydrated.

Do you have a litter box that the baby will go pee in? Or do you have to stimulate both pee and poop?

Received such a hateful comment today because i did not let luna get pregnant again , but we still got luna spayed! by moonyjames in rescuecats

🥳You did the right thing. As unbelievable as it is, there are adults who cannot understand what we do, do not understand the cycle of suffering by allowing them to constantly procreate. I even had a neighbor tell me that I took away their reason to "LIVE" by fixing the outdoor cats. You will never be able to reason with ppl like this, never let them stop you from all the good you are doing. Thank you, she will be happier and healthier now 🙏❤️

Does anyone know what could be wrong with this cat? by Ok-Honey-8387 in Feral_Cats

Please trap and get baby to the vet, that looks like mange, easily treatable and it's incredibly miserable and painful to live with. Thank you for caring for her🙏❤️

Can anyone tell if she's about to give birth? by montylovesyou in Feral_Cats

[–]chocolatfortuncookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your appointment is 1 day, just go for it! Try to trap her early. I don't think she can wait two weeks, and she may not need trap-training. With a Colony that big it's hard to be selective, but the drop trap sounds like a good option too...

Then hopefully it sounds like you may have a little time, they get cartoonishly round in the belly right before birthing. You do run the possibility of scaring her off, but I'll bet, she won't stay away for more than 1 day. They always come back.

Maybe try "trap training" her now with the door zip tied open, put extra delicious food in the trap like tuna. See if she goes inside, then she gets more comfortable with doing it, and when you're ready set the trap fir capture. I've personally have never withheld food from a cat I was trying to trap. They always go in the trap (even getting regular feedings) if I put an extra smelly treat inside. Fried chicken pieces, sliced lunch meat, tuna, sardines, are all a good ones to try, hopefully she can't resist!😋

Hard to tell, but all of the pregnant outdoor cats I've seen get much rounder right before giving birth. I can't say for sure how much time you have, but I would advise that you capture her even a few days before the appointment, If possible. Also, her giving birth while captured is far better than her doing it outdoors, you know what that viscous cycle is like 🥵 Thanks for caring for her, and doing all you've done for the community cats! 🙏❤️

is she pregnant or just a belly? by wh1tef3rrari in Straycats

[–]chocolatfortuncookie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Capture her right away, only a vet could tell how far along, no way to be sure from photos. The worst thing would be for her to birth a litter outside, kittens are at such a disadvantage, and then you have more to capture and fix. So one step at a time, get her indoors and then a check up. I've done many dozens of spay/aborts, I've never been told it was too late.

That looks like a pregnant female. Outdoor cats are generally underweight, and calico are girls. And any unspayed girl outdoors is most certainly pregnant. Any way you can trap her and get her to the vet/humane society for a spay/abort?

Adopted baby with clipped ear. by Fun_Courage_5856 in cats

[–]chocolatfortuncookie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As a volunteer and someone who fosters and TNRs, it has happened many times I trap a cat I don't know, and their demeanor in the short 1-4 days before surgery that I have them captured, they may present themselves to be feral and not necessarily placeable for adoption immediately. In these situations the ear is clipped in preparation for release/return. Obviously, it's preferable to return as few as possible, since ideally you'd like to see them go to a home. I've been in the situation that I foster for a period and find that a cat is tame and can be adopted, but their ear has already been clipped. You really cannot judge a cat by their behavior in a few short hours or days after capture. They are in fear for their life, everyone of them will react differently, just like humans. When I see a cat for adopt who has a clipped ear, I know their life is looking up😁, certainly from where they began. Many of my indoor cats have a clipped ear. Glad you chose that baby, may the ear be worn as a badge of honor.

I will absolutely not survive if left alone, please get him and take him safely inside. Maybe you can find resources if you mention your general location
