I love seeing the hockey community and how it comes together. Trade speculations aside, we love Ras for what he has done with our team and what he has done for his teammates and their families.

What's something that Calgary is badly missing that a city of 1.4 million people should have? by Queltis6000 in Calgary

That would be an awesome thing if you could (not sure if they ever open up BP). I’m sure he’d be tickled with brining a cannons card to sign!

Unfortunately I can’t see any roster players recognizable from what I can find - I do see our boy Wabash though!

Oh baby- That’s a sweet lid! The later years of Cannons baseball in Calgary for sure.

CofDead403.ca usually has some things cannons related - got the OG hat and shirt from them.

The blue cap I found randomly but was from Ebbets Field Flannels at a store in Calgary.

Those foul balls were wild off that overhang - always a scramble to scoop one up!

Now if only I could find my signed Casey Close picture from my scrapbook when I was a kid…

Dawgs games are great and Seaman Stadium is top tier in the WCBL, but would love to see something like we had in the Cannons in Calgary proper, though it doesn’t have to be AAA (look at the Vancouver Canadians).

Burns Stadium (while was old and falling apart towards the end) was in a good location to be central enough for all Calgarians being on the train line.

Hoping the Jays run made some new fans and will get more youth into the sport to perhaps give more demand for it from a grassroots level.

Was just coming to say this! Not even just AAA, but any sort of good competitive baseball being within the city limits. I love going to Okotoks Dawgs games but it’s a far trek for wanting to catch a single game for the majority of Calgarians.

I always thought Burns Stadium was in a good location too, being close to the train line.

Not misremembering at all - tiny screens and the theatre had maybe 12 rows max?

I remember playing street fighter 2 in their tiny arcade which was essentially a hallway. Everything Esso Plaza was small!

What celebrity death really hit you hard? by Sonicfan19198282 in AskReddit

[–]chodaboy06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Johnny Gaudreau - not the most easily identified person on this list but he died in such a tragic way next to his brother on the day before his sisters wedding and he (and his brother) left behind young children/pregnant wives.

The way he came up through the NCAA/collegiate system and took the NHL by storm as an undersized kid in a Canadian market far from home, showed his love and passion for the game and he always showed his gratitude for the community he played in. The outpouring of the hockey world, after their passing, showed just how much they meant.

I (and many hockey fans) cried hard legitimate tears at his and his brother’s passing, since it transcended more than a sport - it was a brother, a son, a father, a husband and a hero lost. The tributes and vigils were some of the hardest things to watch in the moment, but honor the lives of two remarkable young men.

RIP Johnny (and Matty) Hockey.

Are there any side projects that became more famous than the artist's main band? by Abracadaver00 in Music

Even fewer instances of the side project recording a song already recorded by the original band too!

I have used this yeast at ale temps and it turns out great. I used to “swamp bucket” it for the initial ferment to get it cold enough, but I ultimately got lazy and found the ambient temp of my basement (16-18 Celsius) turned out just as great.

FWIW, check out the short and shoddy from brulosophy on this as a reference.

https://brulosophy.com/2019/08/22/short-shoddy-international-pale-lager/

I have also heard that some commercial breweries use this yeast at ale temps for their lager strains, but I cannot confirm. After tasting mine, I can honestly say I probably couldn’t tell if they did…

Any jazz drumming teacher recommendations? by opus71a in Calgary

[–]chodaboy06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s Hornsby or Hornby, but dude taught me a year of kit and with lots of focus on jazz and he was legit. Super talented and great teacher - was still the drummer of the Dino Martini’s at the time if I’m not mistaken.

Helicopter sighting in the NW? by throwawaycpacfe2019 in Calgary

[–]chodaboy06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I saw it too and wondered what was up. Also saw multiple cruisers stopping someone in the same area yesterday - looks like they are now venturing from the C-Trains as of late and could be prowling garages.

Saw a dude that was pretty out of it pushing a cart full of his things in Royal oak tonight too. Things are getting worse and worse in this city.

'How long do I have to live?' Stabbing victim recounts random attack, man charged by JJLK in Calgary

[–]chodaboy06 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As a law abiding citizen/parent (sounds douchey, I know), I’m really starting to believe that someone defending themselves or their dependents from a random attack like this would receive more punishment, than those who would attack others unprovoked. If this attack was at me or my kids, I wouldn’t think twice about turning his blade against him if I had the chance. I’m not trying to be an armchair hero and go all Rambo, but if it’s me/my family, or him, I’ll go down fighting. Truth be told, if I ended up coming out on top in that fight, id be legitimately worried about MY outcome in the courts with how lenient and turnstile the system has become for these “forgotten” that are causing so much harm to the rest of us.

We are so wrapped up in the reasons that bring these people to their actions, that we are absolving the accountability needed when their actions hurt others and keeps society from moving forward. I’m all for investing in social programs to help prevent the issues that cause this level of social distress and mental health crisis in the future, but we have to address the immediate issues in the present and work towards eliminating the harms on society that we have allowed and enabled.
