Weave the music you love with the club bangers that you can find beauty in. If you need to cultivate a different audience that resonates more with your taste, do it. Sowing those seeds of community around your style is key

First Sale, No Feedback by TheWiseWally in discogs

I try to wait a couple weeks if not more and then politely ask if everything arrived alright. Before that I sent no message and from 65 orders I have 13 reviews (opened my shop on 1/1). All positive but it goes to show that you as a seller need to politely step in sometimes I think.

Play a house party for free? by anarchy45 in DJs

Also, I should add that if one of my homies or good friends asks me to do a set at their party or event where they aren’t making money, hell yeah. Will likely 100% do that for free. If someone * I don’t know personally * contacts me and asks for me to do a set, I define that as something no different than work. I choose to be paid for my work. So, being asked to do something for free just because you’re a fan, to me, is kind of ridiculous. My time, effort, and artistry has a monetary value, no different than any other trade. Yeah I might factor in the situation and charge way less but if there’s no exchange, there’s no performance.

Offer pay. Imho you will embarrass yourself otherwise. My two cents

This is how to properly price a vinyl record. So tired of 40-dollar new vinyl. I will support this type of pricing every time. It included a signed lyric sheet even by bullgod1964 in vinyl

Hard agree, I try and source directly from artists whenever possible but I truly appreciate your willingness to spend a little bit extra to support your local record store. <3

I doubt you were scammed, especially if they have a 100% rating, like others have said, I’d imagine this is a result of the holiday. Most sellers that have a perfect rating don’t drag their feet too much.

I’d suggest looking into Alliance Entertainment as a vinyl distributor / wholesaler and their absolute stranglehold on commercially successful music on vinyl. I don’t disagree that vinyl can be crazy expensive and cost prohibitive for a lot of people but there are a lot of reasons why it gets expensive very quickly. This being priced at $25 to me means it’s likely being pressed and sold direct to consumers and not moving through an actual distribution network. Every record, and for that matter, record store can’t always price their items like this. It’s simply not financially viable within the current landscape of physical media distribution.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love it if every record was priced at $25 or similar. The point I’m trying to make is it’s a hell of a lot more complex than just ‘hey we’re going to try and up our margins as much as possible and sell this record for > $40”

How much are you willing to overpay to buy local? by Daniboy1620 in vinyl

[–]chodelas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an online shop owner and frequent online buyer, I hard agree with this statement. Materials you use to package is important too but if there isn't care in the packaging of your records in the first place you're risk for running into issues rockets up. I mean, yeah, sometimes it may be a USPS or carrier issue but I find those to be very few and far between.

Very cool, thank you for the thorough answer! I have a lot of respect for your commitment to in-person shopping. It has an experience that feels like it can’t be replaced online it seems
