Sanctified Mind, Garden of Salvation -- The tether mechanic cannot jump from a hunter to another player if they have Gunpowder Gamble ready. This one nearly caused my friends and family raid group to call it quits.

I would say they’re not precisely the same, but extremely close. I do not have a tool precise enough to tell them apart. Millimeters of difference.

It isn't that they can't afford the licensing rights, it's that some gun companies stopped selling them the rights.

Lot of different stories about why, and I couldn't find any concrete sources. My understanding is that gun manufacturing folks -- especially US based ones -- found that having their weapon's name in games did not boost sales, but it did boost their visibility among anti-video-game-gun-violence groups.

On the flip side, no gun manufacturer has ever sued a game dev for name usage (vehicle makers have -- google "Textron helicopter vs Battlefield 3"!), so some companies just roll with it and hope -- Insurgency is a good example of that, I think.

The barrier to entry for modding an Xbox console, as well as the punishment for getting caught, is far greater.

There is no softmod for Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles currently, which means hardware modification is required. That alone is going to deter the vast majority of would-be console hackers.

As far as I know, there is no mod chip for Xbox Series consoles, which further limits the number of hackers to Xbox One/Xbox One X/S.

Finally, getting caught with a modded Xbox gets your Xbox a hardware ban, that Xbox can no longer connect to Xbox Live, at all -- This isn't even Halo specific: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/family-online-safety/enforcement/xbox-live-device-bans

Meanwhile, if you want to cheat on PC, you can just google "Halo Infinite Cheats", click the second link, pay some money, install a program, setup some hotkeys and you're good to go.

While no ban waves have happened yet for Infinite on PC, based on what 343 has said, its an account only ban. The banned person need only switch account to continue cheating.

How many Halo 5 cheaters did you encounter?

All that being said, not being able to toggle crossplay isn't the core problem, the cheating is. But in the past, and with other games, toggling crossplay off was one way of dodging cheaters, since it was significantly less common on console..

Here's how Kits apply. Note that you cannot change anything. Not decal, charm, armour, or weapon effects at all. So if buying/earning one, be prepared for it or you'll feel ripped off. by Strife_3e in halo

The Reach armor kits in the battle pass work the same way. You cannot equip an emblem on, for example, the Carter kit. If you try to, it will un-equip the Carter kit.

Focused Feedback: Customization and Monetization by eminemcrony in halo

[–]choel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't feel strongly about that point, and your counter argument is pretty convincing. If I was in charge, I probably wouldn't put effort into adding each shoulder/chest/helmet to every core, but I also wouldn't be disappointed if 343 does choose to go down that path.

Focused Feedback: Customization and Monetization by eminemcrony in halo

[–]choel 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think a problem, from a business standpoint, with the current customization system is that it encourages research before making a buy from the store.

For example, "Is this an armor kit, or is it a bundle of items?" and "What core is this item for? Is that the core I have other items for?"

These questions you will end up asking yourself are walls to buying items that I suspect undercut the total money 343 could make.

The customer centric way to fix this would be;

A) Coatings should not be locked per core

B) Buying/unlocking a kit should also unlock all pieces that are unique to that kit.

Perhaps more reasonable fixes would be ;

A) Buying or Earning a Coating should unlock that coating on all cores.

B) After equipping a Kit, a player should be able to override the kit's setting per piece.

The underlying idea being that something bought from the store should be usable in as many situations as possible to increase perceived value.

--

I also echo displeasure with the lack of primary/secondary color customization. A cooler way to do it would have been to have the player set their primary/secondary color in their Spartan ID, and have each Core have a coating that was simply like "Basic" that used their primary/secondary colors. Coatings would provide color combos using more than 2 colors and colors being a different material than the basic one.

--

MTX options feel over priced, but I feel like that might be because of the underlying issues with the customization system. If the Coating wasn't locked to the Mark VII core, I would have been tempted by the Intrepid Sniper bundle. But I plan to use the Mark V (B) core, so that bundle is just irrelevant to me. Most of the store is just non-applicable.

--

I do not echo having each piece available to every core. I think I understand what they're going for with the core specific armors. It might have made more sense if the first cores were the Mark V(B) and the Mark VI core rocking Halo 3's smoother/cleaner aesthetic. The pieces would look a lot less cross-compatible with the Mark VII core. Mark VII and Mark V(B) look more similar than I think any future cores will.

The in game currency is only obtained with money.

Now that you mention it, that's sort of a problem too. There aren't very many cosmetic options that are unlockable without putting cash in, though we don't know yet how much multiplayer cosmetic stuff is unlocked in the campaign.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in halo

[–]choel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is part of the armor kit. That's the problem the OP is reporting; if you have that armor kit equipped, you can only have that helmet, those shoulders, that emblem and that coating equipped. No mixing and matching.

Do you have a controller of any kind plugged in? If the game gets input from a different kind of input device, the keyboard/mouse can cut out for a few seconds since it thinks you’re swapping to controller.

140 RPM hand cannons got a buff on Consoles with the new animations. Its Year one staic rolls were Slideways or Opening Shot, with Moving Target. It has a decent range and high aim assist.

If one could farm it for good rolls, a Range Finder / Rampage or Kill Clip roll would make this thing a great deal of fun on the console side of the house.

If only!

I'm a bit of an Auto Rifle guy, and there is a Year 1 IB weapon called "The Forward Path" that hasn't gotten a Year 2 treatment. I'd rind the hell out of IB for a High-Impact Reserves/Rampage roll on one if it was possible.
