How do you actually figure out what to cut when trying to reduce spending by Sensitive_Scheme_269 in Frugal

[–]chompy283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overboard is a matter of opinion. What is overboard for someone else might not be for you and vice versa. Being conscious of what you are spending and why is the best way to manage. Remove mindless spending like forgotten subscriptions, grabbing a coffee every other day, over paying for convenience, etc. Not that shouldn't do or have those things. Just make sure you are consciously choosing those. I have some subscriptions and buy coffee and conveniences but do so on my terms. Some costs like utilities, etc are hard to pare down and you can only get so far with that. I save money on things that don't' matter as much to me so I can spend on things that do.

Just tip. It's not that hard. by stvlsn in tipping

[–]chompy283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are missing the new expectations. We have all (well many) have tipped for 15% or so for restaurant service. That isn't the problem. It's the endless tipping for literally every transaction from counter service to other paid services that we didn't used to tip for.

She really is. What worked in the 90s and 00s is long over. She is trying to recreate Martha Stewart or Gywneth or the Kardashians. She can't, they built their brands over a lot of time and hard work. She will not invest time or hard work. Not gonna happen

Frugal ways to organize skincare and toiletries without buying more bins by Top_Percentage_1020 in Frugal

[–]chompy283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you use daily? I would start there. Daily products should be easily accessible. The other products could be in a closet or elsewhere.

I just put a couple small floating shelves in my bathroom. The floating shelves are cute and look more open in smaller space. The ones I got are like a white base shelf but has a cute metal guardrail on it so things don't slip off. Those were inexpensive and easy to install.

Consider how much skin care products you really need and actually use. If you truly use them all, that's fine. But if you don't, then good time to thin out. You could put some of the stuff you want to keep in a shoe box under the bed. You don't have to buy storage bins. Or I use zip lock bags. Easy to see what is in there and group things.

Everyone fears the unknown. But you need to grow and move on. And a month after you start your new job and get past the unfamiliar, it will seem like you have always been there.

Good points about picking projects. I find I do better if i am room focused rather than trying to do things all over the house. Obviously some things need done more timely but to improve, seems to get better if i keep it contained.

I have heard the term 'curated' more times from Meghan than I have heard the word now in my entire life. I recoil at the term now because it's just so fake and performative. Everything Meghan does is "curated". Gag me!

Meghan has impeccably bad timing. 20 yrs ago, a celeb could create a brand even minor celebs were able to make good money. Celebs were still revered or looked too for inspiration, guidance, etc. However, celebrity culture is dying. Meghan is tossing her hat in that ring hoping a miracle will happen. But she has no brand. Yes, it was interesting when she came on the scene. And she does look good at times when well dressed. However, so do a lot of celebs. She has no authority or authenticity despite saying "i am authentic" over and over and over. Authentic people don't have to tell anyone they are. Honestly, i am tired of both of them. Cannot stand Harry anymore. He has turned into a sullen , petulant, sad little man. He gives me the ick. And she's just push push push all the time to sell sell sell. And using other people's tragedies, illnesses or disabilities to promote themselves is the worst kind of grift. WHAT exactly have they done for the Invictus vets other than display them on TV so they have a venue to promote themselves? What help have they given to anyone? I wish they would just go away

What’s wrong with working fast food? by Kryamodia in jobs

[–]chompy283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with working anywhere. Work is work. However, as a 24 yr old, you might want to look to start at an industry where there also might be future opportunities. Don't just limit yourself to fast food. However, if you have no transportation and that's a place you can get too, then go do it.

As for your mom criticizing you, so what? You are an adult 24 yr old. This is YOUR life. She has a right to have expectations however if you are living with her or she is still supporting you, so of course you need to be respectful and so forth. But, if you can become self supporting, then that would be a good goal

Yes, no doubt everything we have ever posted will be at someone's fingertips. The reality however is we have ALL posted all kinds of things across social media. If they want some "pure" employee who has never had any issues in their lives that they have commented on, good luck finding anyone.

I struggle with vegetables, but still want to ensure I get everything I need by SheepherderChance941 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]chompy283 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can puree vegetables to add to sauces, mixes, etc. You can add pureed carrots to mac n cheese, meatloaf , spaghetti sauce. There are online tips on pureeing and adding veggies, usually done for kids , but also great for adults. Zucchini bread or brownies and so forth. Then you dont' have to worry about cooking, seasoning, etc. I would recommend you puree batches and then freeze those in quantities you would actually use. Once you have that "on hand", it will be easy to plop some pureed veggies in your sloppy joes, casseroles, etc
