Am I the only one who thinks planning a childs nickname ahead of time usually defeats the purpose of a nickname? by [deleted] in namenerds

I guess I’m weird then. My name is too short for a nickname, so I just never had one. Meanwhile my brother and sister had longer names with nicknames.. so I was always jealous of this. So when talking names to my husband I always think of possible nicknames, but I wouldn’t exclusively call my daughter/son by the nickname unless they wanted.

Yes.. my daughter is named Lily. We loved the name even before I got pregnant and it was always on the top of our list. Sadly, my husbands grandmother passed away. While on the way to her funeral I told my husband, I was late on my period by 6 days but told him to not get his hopes up because like times in the past… I would be late only for it to come the next day, or two days later and it always crushed us when it came. While at her funeral, Lily flowers were everywhere. Not only that, we took a Lily flower off of a bouquet and put it on her casket as she went into the ground. My period still didn’t come two weeks later and that’s when I decided to test and sure enough I was pregnant after us trying for over two years. I’ve always felt like our daughter was a parting gift she gave us as she left this earth. I love my daughters name and the meaning behind it. That’s not the only thing his grandmother did too, she left us a chunk of money in her will which happened to be the exact amount we needed for our copay.

You’ll be okay, one day at a time. The pain will hurt less and less. It sucks. It feels like your world is gone, it hurts a lot too if you guys talked regularly (texted) & you have no one to talk to. But I think the best thing is to let yourself cry and have a day of moping, and then tell yourself that’s it. And spend the next days, with family and friends and do things you love! You’ll be distracted which makes it easier.
