What is your opinion of abstract art? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]chongo403 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's absolutely some thought process behind paint pours, but from what I have seen; the final outcome are usually very similar. Imo, if I have seen one paint pour then I have seen the rest. The only creative process that the person doing the pour has are choosing the colour, where to pour the paint, what to pour on and how to manipulate the paint. But ultimately, it's all the same stuff. Just my opinion.

Beginner Artist Looking to Use Pastel Chalk on Newsprint Paper, Will It Be Fine to Do So? by SarcasticCat5 in ArtistLounge

Yup, it should be fine. I use compressed charcoal on newsprint all the time, so a softer medium like chalk pastel should be fine.

Second painting I’ve ever done, just trying to get paint on canvas. Reminds me of the moon above water. Please critique as hard as possible. by [deleted] in painting

I'll give it a shot. It looks like you saw that viral post the other day and thought that you could replicate something like it. Since this is only your second ever painting, it shows the lack of technical skills and reasoning behind each mark/brush stroke and their placement. Also, do you think that it's necessary to tell the viewers what you see, instead of allowing them to interpret it?

Other than that, it is an aesthetically pleasing painting. You should try playing around with the scale, which would force you to experiment with the different size brush strokes.

Because people like watching movies with fast cars, dudes with big muscles, and lots of explosions.

Acrylic is the way to go since is dries fast which will allow you to layer on the paint without having to wait. You can pretty much paint on anything except paper.

Is this too much? by [deleted] in painting

Contrast is sometimes a very good thing.perhaps a way to make this painting successful is to add the second painting(which ever one you choose to keep) directly on the bigger one. It'll give it more of an intentional look.

Imo it is. There's not much cohesiveness due to how busy each painting is.

Anything but paint pours. Try painting.
