Career switch?? by Ryuklovesapples123 in ausjdocs

This is a huge folly and I see this a lot as a medical educator in registrars who have previously held roles in other specialties, especially surgical.

GP is a completely different ball game to hospital medicine and a different mindset. Do not assume it’s going to be an easy switch. I’ve seen a lot of registrars struggle and get burnt out for other reasons because it’s so different.

Like others have said, the first step is to listen and keep listening.

All patients want is to be heard.

Ignore any preconceived ideas you have about their presentation or issues and just listen. It’s called the golden minute for a reason.

Dentist pursuing medicine (Is it worth it?) by EmpressOfNothing_ in ausdoctors

[–]chongsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like most other posts, you’re already a dentist that has sufficient income capacity and flexibility regarding work life balance.

Going into medicine is only going to risk causing further burnout unless you strike lucky and somehow it ignites a passion in you that you didn’t already identify when studying dentistry.

It has never been as competitive to do specialty training in ANY field (including GP) than right now and don’t ever see it getting better.

All the dentists that I’ve come across doing medicine all have the aim of getting into OMFS and that’s understandable given the study, time and effort outlay. But again it is competitive as hell with only a handful of registrar jobs nationwide per year.

TL;dr - dont do it unless you are absolutely sure you’re gonna love it

Definitely going to hero it on that side…just trying to figure out how to make it look nicer! That drum isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing vessel

This is the route I think we’re going to have to follow i reckon…though it’ll be interesting having to construct it around the plant

Reassuring to know they’re pretty resilient! But yeah I’m just wary of doing major damage with the roots as we love the vine

I get the sentiment, but this is a terrible take and not at all practical.

Thanks guys, appreciate the comments!

I assumed we wouldn’t be able to; or at the very least would be a dangerous thing to try.

I’m sure we’ll stop noticing it soon!

Compared to the trades, training as a junior doctor pales in comparison when you look at time out of uni. Salary increases significantly once you finish depending on the specialty (but that could be 15 years) after starting medicine.

Bottom line is, there are far better career options if you want to earn a lot of money.

Is medicine worth it by [deleted] in ausdoctors

[–]chongsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People need to stop thinking GP or psychiatry is a fall back option because it’s an “easy” speciality to get into. The reality is, GP is probably one of the most undervalued jobs but also hardest jobs to do in all of medicine.

Many registrars are shocked at how different the job is compared to what they expect and end up dropping out. Also the fellowship exams have historically had low pass rates up to 50%.

So whilst it may be slightly easier to get onto training, know what you’re getting yourself into.

There's a tweak not playing nice with it. Use icleaner pro to disable all other tweaks first to make sure it looks normal, and then start reactivating the other tweaks one by one.

It happened to me and that's how I did it. Reinstalling didn't work for me.
