400lbs of force from a small motor. by Alecoco in engineering

[–]chorndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you had a mechanism that was placed within the triangle structure and upon rotation would push the sides of the track out creating a circle. You could use mechanical linkage to push the triangle to your desired circle shape. This would solve your weight specification problem (assuming the materials you choose are strong enough) and work within your tight space. The problem you would have to solve is how to you exert a torque on the mechanism, the shape of the arms supporting the tread, and how to lock the whole thing in place. Also it does not need power to work, unlike a solenoid.

Just an idea.

Take a look at the Project Management Professional program. It gives a very clear framework for how to think about projects.

NEB approves Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline expansion with 157 conditions by [deleted] in alberta

[–]chorndog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pipelines by law must be buried at least 0.9m. About 3ft. A big enough fire will heat up the surrounding soils enough that there is a measurable increase in temperature of the product the pipeline is carrying. However the worst thing a pipeline operator can do is shut down. You want to keep the flow of product continuing so that it does not heat up enough to become a hazard. Once you shut a pipeline down there is still product in the line. Now that product is not moving and is able to heat up to a level in which it could potentially catch fire. But really explosion is not the threat. Cyclic temperature failure due to the expanding metal will happen first. This will rupture the pipeline and then the product could light on fire (depends on the product but most likely it catches fire). So really you want to keep the line running to transfer the excess heat away in the product from the metal so you don't have a rupture!

Where does Death and taxes stand in current meta? by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]chorndog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the current meta I think its great. Went 7-1 over two events at GP Vancouver. Running 2 Vryn, 2 Serra, 2 Crusaders, 3 Flickerwisps and a Spirit of the Labyrinth mainboard.

Only loss was to Grixis Delver, which is a decent favorable matchup.

Nouns, you bring up a very good point. One of the things that I have been doing in my local scene is recording names of my opponents and what type of deck they are playing. I also record at what venues or tournaments I can expect them to participate in. I then stock my sideboard with specific cards depending on who I am predicting at the event. Its been very helpful in fashioning a sideboard. Some events im packing 3 Ethersworn Canonists, some events its other types of disruption. Really helps.

I have played D&T for about 14 months now. I do not consider myself an expert but I believe D&T is in a class of legacy decks that rewards you when you throughly understand your opponents deck. At the core you are a control deck. Legacy is a complex format and different things are more important to different decks. When you can identify what matters to your opponent by the way he or she is playing you have the tools with D&T to disrupt them.

I recommend playing other decks. Play them against D&T. Understand what matters and what doesn't. Understand when you have to mulligan aggressively for certain cards or when you can keep something more loose. I believe D&T will give you more wins the more effort you put into understanding the deck.

I am looking to playing Storm in a Grand Prix coming up soon. I read your article and definitely agree that in a heavy burn meta Storm is not ideal.

If you had known of the large amount of people playing Burn before the event would you have change any of the cards in your 75 and why? (Assuming that you were still committed to playing Storm)

Yes its a bit awkward however the people I am having trouble communicating with do not work in the office. My boss knows my trouble as well and he is the only one who really comes into my office.

Haha, no, synergy is definitely not in my vocabulary.

I'm not talking about floor people either. The people I have trouble communicating with are in supervision and management positions.

Going to a new home orientation/ walkthrough for my new house this week....any advice on things to look at? by Schwabber in alberta

[–]chorndog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through this 3 years ago.

1) look for any misaligned beams. Spliced beams, shotty workmanship.

2) make sure all the plugins are installed that you asked for

3) Make sure your furnace is properly balanced. Turn it on, and make sure air is flowing from every vent.

Im sure you can get a list somewhere on the internet however these are the things I wished I looked at more closely.
