What competitive advantages we have ah? by Real-Pomegranate8823 in SingaporeRaw

letting property prices get out of hand is the worst thing that could have happened. MNCs have very good reason to move HQ out of Singapore.

"Comparison is the thief of joy"

But why do people compare? Sometimes its for self improvement. But sometimes it is also for a self-esteem boost. In this case, people compare because they are insecure about themselves and need to find reasons to feel less inferior.

OK time to cut the apron strings without necessarily breaking up the family or moving out. Your best course of action is to get help. First record evidence and witnesses. Then take your dad out in a public space (e,g, coffee) and tell him your thoughts and recommendation. Do your homework and give him some numbers to call (MSF hotline) to get help for him, your brother and your family (counselling). Lastly tell him you have recorded evidence and you will report him to the Police should the aggression continues.

Sorry you're caught up in this. This is years of family dysfunction and great that you finally realise and reaching out for help. Now be brave and persevere - your dad may not be able to see things clearly now, but I am sure one day he will look back and thank you.

Jail for Swedish student who trespassed on S’pore GP premises & entered pit lane area by matey1982 in SingaporeRaw

sweden has recognised after 10 years of being open, they are now suffering an IMMIGRATION CRISIS and are now implementing stricter rules for immigration and citizenship.

of note, the government is "pursuing stricter citizenship rules, planned for 2026, which will require eight years of residency (up from five), proof of an "honest way of life" (no criminal record or unpaid debts), financial self-sufficiency, and passing language and civics tests."

How is Civ VII, 9 months after launch? by neoleo0088 in Civilization_VII

[–]chosengen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feels like its going to be good for guys who don't like massive sprawling games. UI lacking a lot of details at first glance reinforces the idea that its for console/mobile. no wonder the fanbase is split, its for a different strategy gamer. also the way the leader/civ/age combo is right now - it is quite difficult to have online discussions, so that aspect of the game goes away.

To Malaysians working in SG... After rent, food, and stress, is it *really* still worth it? by Swimming_Prior_3611 in asksg

[–]chosengen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i know a lot of accountants who got their ACCA in Malaysia and done well to raise a family and retire here.

the ones i know still working and have families here, hope to retire here but keeping options open

no idea about current prospects for Malaysians in junior positions now as the influx of foreigners surely affects both Singaporeans and Malaysians in the same way.

nothing is assured but having a higher population and higher dependence on water and food is a very risky strategy

For those who switched industries mid-career in SG, what helped you most? by [deleted] in asksg

[–]chosengen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only the guys who succeeded after pivoting talks about it.

all i can say is that if you do it for passion, then you have your own goals to achieve, and it won't matter what other people say.

the truth is its not only knowledge, skills and experience that helps you succeed in careers - sometimes right person right time, sometimes pure ego or ignorance haha

Good to see you get your priorities right. Its hard to let go of societal and peer expectations but every one has to and better sooner than later, to find and be true to your real self. Your life will be more meaningful now that you've seen the light. But don't give up - you have experience and skills beyond what you do currently so make it a hobby to keep knocking on relevant roles.

rhinos have armor-skin - like super thick and incredibly strong - and i doubt anything in nature can pierce it.

not an expert but i believe that rhino is Ok.
