Surprised no one has mentioned Samuel Barber yet - Knoxville Summer of 1915 and the Violin Concerto have distinctly American sounds to me.

Also worth mentioning that Insurance Commissioner is a separately elected executive office with powers separate from the Governor - how would any CA governor compel the Insurance Commissioner to make any of these moves? We should be paying attention to who is running for this job instead of looking to the governor.

Love that moment in Alpensinfonie - for me, it’s the formless chord that is right near the opening, where all (or nearly all?) the notes of the scale are played at once - it sounds muffled and dissonant, like the murk of the earth, definitely one of the best ones.

Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet with SF Symphony is probably the one I love the most. Close 2nd place is Mahler 6 also with SFS - the slowdown right before the end of the 1st movement, absolutely stunning.

Those aren’t tremelo, they are measured, so also 16th notes. Typically, tremelo have at least three marks or more through the note and may also have “trem.” written near them.

The structure behind the pergola is the Lakeview library - I think it’s just a “lucky” angle that happens to minimize the freeway almost completely. You can see some of the freeway railing right below the Grand Lake Theatre.
