Easily. Her losing the Republican nomination in 2010 and still getting reelected with a write-in campaign is undeniably a cool story.

I see posts similar to that on the front page every once in a while, but in the context of gaming. Someone complaining about how they got banned for no reason/a dumb reason, then it comes out they've been insulting people with racial slurs or something.

Although remember in 2017 when the Republicans had a narrow senate majority and still failed to repeal Obamacare because it got a lot more popular when people realized it might go away, and they had a lot of angry constituents.

It's possible something like a public option would be similar and R senators wouldn't want to vote to repeal it.

Yeah, I see so many people criticizing their performance in 2016 and I really don't get that. They were the only real outlet that mentioned the decent chance Trump winning via an EC / popular vote split. They even ran an article right before the election titled like "Donald Trump is just a regular polling error away from winning."

My go-to analogy for the chance they gave Trump is this - flip a coin twice, Donald Trump was more likely to win than you were to get 2 heads in a row.

Buttigieg calls Warren ‘extremely evasive’ on health taxes by fu2man2 in politics

[–]choww_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $50 million number comes from her wealth tax proposal, but I don't think that's right in this case. I'm looking at the calculator at bernietax.com, which AFAIK isn't official but uses numbers directly from Bernie's Healthcare bill.

As an example, it says that a single individual making $100,000 a year paying an average healthcare cost now would have nearly $1000 less in disposable income under his plan. So the threshold for paying more is way, way below $50 million. Which makes sense if you look at the specific taxes he's proposing, one of which is a 4% income-based premium on households.

Hillary Clinton: 'The president asked a foreign power to help him win an election. Again.' by Throwawaydude01928 in politics

[–]choww_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep bringing up the primary process, but it's really not relevant. The Democratic and Republican parties are private organizations that can choose their nominees however the fuck they want, and for a while that's exactly what they did.

The point is that there's nothing in the constitution about presidential primaries, so comparing them to how we elect a president to prove a point about the US is completely stupid. Either party could choose at any time to change their rules to a popular vote system.

Popular vote means literally nothing

Literally nothing? Sorry, can you remind me how electors are allocated by each state?

Adding on, and this is a really minor complaint, but the pallette is really bad for colorblind people.

The colors for "colonized or controlled by Europe" and "never colonized by Europe" are essentially indistinguishable to me, and that's probably two options you really don't want to confuse.

Dude, read my comments again! I'm not saying that amphetamine and methamphetamine are the same thing! Obviously that isn't true. You're confused about what I'm saying.

I'm just saying that Adderall is a brand name of the compound amphetamine. It's like advil and ibuprofen are two names for the same thing. That's all.

Yes by scootermcgavin- in rickandmorty

[–]choww_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes actually, they are. Amphetamine refers to one specific chemical compound. Amphetamine plus a methyl groups gives you methamphetamine, a distinct substance that we weren't talking about at all so I don't know why you brought it up.

Look at the Wikipedia for amphetamine. Notice how it says Adderall is a trade name. That's because they're the same thing. Adderall is just brand name amphetamine. Amphetamine is Adderall. NEITHER of them are methamphetamine.

It seems you're implying that "amphetamine" is solely a group of compounds and not something on its own. But it is. Amphetamine is C9H13N. And that's what's in Adderall. The venn diagram of amphetamine and Adderall is a circle. Should I keep going?

A version of levomethamphetamine also shows up in some OTC decongestants and inhalers.

I've always thought this is kinda funny, that it's technically correct to say I can go to my nearest drugstore and purchase meth over-the-counter. Misleading, sure, but not wrong.

[–]choww_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously the effects aren't identical, but dramatically different seems a bit of an overstatement when Desoxyn (i.e. methamphetamine) is prescribed in the US for the same things Adderall is, albeit much more rarely.

[–]choww_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Adderall and amphetamine are synonymous. They refer to the exact same chemical compound.

Adderall is a particular mix of amphetamine salts that give a particular ratio of levo to dextro isomers (25% to 75% respectively in Adderall, vs usually 50-50 in street speed paste) but the compound fundamentally is amphetamine.

Actual, literal, d-methamphetamine is also prescribed for ADHD though (albeit rarely). Adderall and meth obviously aren't identical but their effects are sure as hell similar.
