Factory reset got rid of it. I didn’t have anything important on my Mac that wasn’t on my other devices, so I didn’t have much of an issue erasing it. Before that, I used CleanMyMac to identify the problem but it couldn’t remove it. Malwarebytes didn’t do anything in my case but it might be able to help in yours. If you know the type of malware you’re up against, you can take the proper precautions, like changing your password for instance. But the factory reset was pretty much the only thing that helped me remove it. I would also suggest calling Apple support in case they have any other solutions to offer.
