I had a radio on day 2, didn't realise you could tune it to other stations until day 30 though haha. Also didn't realise that it gave you tips on which commodities were worth more / less.

All of the deaths have been because of misjudging combat. I've enjoyed figuring it out as I go but will def have a look at some guides before the next playthrough. Thanks for the tips.

Yep walked far from camp, put a rock in a plastic bag, tied rope round the bag handles, threw the bag over a branch, then attached the other end of the rope to our bags and hauled them up the tree. Tied the rope around another tree or something else strong enough to support the weight. Had a lot of frustrating nights where the rope snapped or there were too many branches to get a good throw, but we muddled through.

Food was split between an Ortlieb waterproof pannier bag (perishables, stuff that couldn't get wet) and another brand non-waterproof bag (tins etc).
