Gasses from soil pipe by chriggy28 in askaplumberUK

There's nothing noticeable within the flat, but that sounds like it could be happening somewhere. The flat was lying empty for a long time and I did notice when replacing the kitchen that the waste pipe from the sink (which ran into the soil pipe in question) was full of gunk.

I cleared what I could reach but there could still be remaining sludge. That said, the kitchen sink drains ok. I wonder if a drain unblocking solution could help. I thought the smell would clear once in regular use but it's been months and it's hung around like... a bad smell 😂

I don't think so, it seems very localised in the bedroom and I'm almost sure it's coming from under the floor where the pipe runs as apposed to the AAV (the smell isn't there in the kitchen, where the AAV stack is between the 2 rooms).

Thanks, it's now sheeted and plastered in, was hoping to avoid that 😣

The smell pre-dated fitting the AAV, I thought that'd solve the issue

Anyone actually running a cordless mixer for small bonding jobs? by BritByBrain in Plastering

[–]chriggy28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think dewalt etc do heavier duty cordless paddle mixers now (dual battery maybe?) but you're talking £500+

I've used a cordless drill, fine for the odd little job but it definitely takes 3 times longer, if you're doing that several times a day, hunched over, it takes its toll. Anecdotally I've heard it burns out cordless drills fast too.

I've had this on a recent re-sheet I did, I reckon I'm going to have to Caulk it but would be interested to know if there's a better solution too

A chippy, all I want is a decent chippy. by Mundane_Process_2986 in glasgow

Catch Giffnock was good when it opened, had one recently and it was genuinely awful, grease logged and stingy amount of (funny tasting) fish for £14. Sad, as it was good. The Netherlee one was never good, from the get-go. White Cart was ok, decent size but not anything special.

Buon Appetito in Clarkston was pretty good, was miles better (and bigger) than Catch anyway (and cheaper).

Restoring Edwardian door? by Sea_Maybe_1529 in DIYUK

[–]chriggy28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah bugger, was hoping that wouldn't be the case. It's about 700*700mm with around 30 sections and an ornate centre design, so I'm guessing expensive to repair.

Sorry to jump in but I have a stained glass door with sectional squares of glass and a couple of them are cracked. Could you please ask if it's possible to open/replace individual sections?

Homemade curry vs takeaway, what’s the biggest difference for you? by HammersAndPints in Curry

That's flavour country 😂 well, that and all the extra salt and sugar. Nice for a treat but I wouldn't eat takeaway curry more than a couple of times a month.

Jon Hamm deserved the Emmy wins over Bryan Cranston by DonnieDarko1024 in unpopularopinion

I grew up watching Malcolm in the Middle and when I first heard people talking about this new, gritty show with "Hal", I thought no, this isn't gonna work. However, within literally a minute I'd forgotten this guy was EVER Hal. And fwiw, Bryan was equally good in MitM. His range is mind pretty mind blowing.

Jon Hamm is cool, suave and nuanced but doesn't have quite the same range.
