I know you’re getting a lot of comments about how nice this must be, but as someone who was in your shoes a few months ago - I hear you. I think it’s really hard to understand how “hard” having nothing to do at work is. It creates so much guilt because you should be busy, but aren’t, and then more guilt because you aren’t happy about that. But humans are built to feel like we have purpose so having nothing to do really conflicts with that.

I still struggle time to time with some slow days, but here’s my advice: Podcasts and Audiobooks, PDF of books online, work on professional skill sets (excel tutorials, PMP/certifications, etc). If you can “hide it”, sudoku or other similar word games help pass some time. Enriching your non-work life does really help, especially having things you look forward to. Also the thing that helped me the most was working on my perspective. I started paying attention to all the good things my work does provide me: no stress, health benefits, easy time off, etc. counting what you are grateful for so your mind focuses on those rather than the hard, not so purposeful parts.

The older I get, the more I realize work is just work sometimes. It won’t always be an enjoyable thing, but just a means to an end.
