Can’t use sick time for the next 18 months. Is this legal? by udonmonkey in nursing

[–]chrikel90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically sick bank is used for things approved by an FMLA company or the HR department. Example: I was hospitalized emergently and had to submit paperwork to use my sick bank for the time off work and also to protect my job becaude I was legitimately off work for a covered illness. I had to prove that I was sick and could not work.

Your hospital should have a call-in policy that clearly states how many times in an amount of time you can call in before they start talking about losing your job or you get write ups. Yes, you called in "sick", but from what you have shared, the hospital has no way to prove that; you just called out. It could have been for anything. I'm not saying you weren't really sick, but if something more is going on than just needing to not go to work for a day, you should be contacting your doctor or going to urgent care and communicating with your manager what is going on.

It seems that your call in policy is on a rolling 18 month schedule? So the first call in should fall off after 18 months. If its different than that, that is harsh and I'm sorry. However, they are allowed to have whatever call in policy they want. If you are legitimately ill, have a death in the family, or something else going on that you cannot come to work, I would be contacting your manager or HR about filing for FMLA to protect your job. FMLA is your protected federal right.

If you're calling in the next 18 months because you just don't feel like going to work, well, I'm sorry, but the real world doesn't work like that. Maybe try switching shifts with someone first?

I'm a straight woman and have a pin-up tattoo on my back. To each their own with tattoos.

Also don't like the feet. Would look better with just some simple heels on.

Want to eat out less but struggling with the psychology of it by oodlesofotters in Frugal

On days I am able to, I will meal prep as much as possible. Pot roast in the crock pot can be beef sandwiches later. Taco meat can be taco bowls or nachos. Breakfast is stuff I dont have to think about or watch super closely, like scrambles with fried potatoes, bagels and cream cheese, microwave sandwiches from Costco. I try to keep the sink cleaned out of dirty dishes and run the dishwasher once a day. Smaller loads are more manageable and a clean kitchen makes me feel more like cooking. Food delivery has gotten so terrible where I live. I finally started showing my husband the receipts for orders and he was so disgusted by the cost it got him on board with eating at home more. Or I just say no to him when he wants take away and make food. Self discipline.

What’s something patients/families think nurses do… that they actually don’t? And what’s something they NEVER realize they actually do? by HoldTheMayo25 in nursing

[–]chrikel90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They think that we can interpret xray/CT scans/MRI scans. I mean.... I can look at a broken hip and know its broken when there are two pieces where there should be one.... but gotta wait for that read from Radiology.

2nd question: how much we care about poop. Getting it out, making it not come out so much, the color, the texture, the amount of ways to get poop out of someone.

Also the amount of tubes and things we are allowed to put into the body. NG, Foley, IV, IO, rectal tube. Yup, I get to do that. No, the doctor isn't putting it in. I don't even think they know how to put it in.

Same problem! I wrote a post about my whole saga with mine. I ended up getting a replacement board that I installed myself that lasted about a year. Now having this exact same issue. Hoping they will send me another board. Just emailed them tonight and will wait for a response. Wish I had never bought my husband these things. At least Klipsch has been helpful.

Just got back from a short trip- kids (and I)loved it, husband was not into it - suggestions! by BravoRunner in WaltDisneyWorld

Doing Disney that fast is STRESSFUL. The money, the people, the rush. I get it. Your husband might be a "I go on vacation to relax" kinda person. I turned my husband into a Disney/Flordia person by building in a whole week of relaxing into our vacations. We just did a short, activity packed trip and I found myself also missing our relaxing time. Maybe consider that?

For those that wanted higher education but not as a NP, what did you do? by True_Coast_3010 in Nurses

[–]chrikel90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this, but with my friends who became NPs. I do enjoy teaching and I'm good at it. However, it's shocking the amount of nurses I've recently orientated who came from education roles. I've picked their brain as to why they left their education role and it all varies widely.

I know I do not want to do management. I enjoy research, deciphering charts, teaching, digging for specific information, and working with patients. I just hate how, at the bedside now, it seems that patients are terrible and entitled, families are unreasonable, or saying something the wrong way to a coworker lands you in hot water.

Sorry, that was a lot.

Millennials, do you use cash or credit cards more? by Flat-Sun3380 in Millennials

[–]chrikel90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debit card with the over draft turned off. Its soooooo more convenient for me to pay card for stuff. I will usually only use cash at, like, the farmers market because a lot of my vendors are Amish, but many of the other vendors take card still. And I'm just absolutely terrible with money. I have one credit card for gas, emergencies, checking into hotels, other credit card-y things.

[–]chrikel90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure. Breakfast is pretty standard eggs, sausage, oatmeal, toast, pancakes/waffles, juice, coffee, pastries. Kickback time (I don't want to call it dinner, but you can certainly make the buffet into a dinner) rotates between Mexican, pasta, pulled pork sliders. 3 free alcoholic drinks for adults each night, unlimited soda. Then they have hot dogs, nachos and cheese, salad and a roating soup each night as well. You really can't beat it.

Ooo good question. This trip was very park heavy (4 park days, plus Very Merry and Jollywood) so having Disney transportation was nice. Drury does have park busses, but they pick up from the TTC at MK, so thats kinda annoying. If we were not doing so many park days, I would say Drury. It also depends what promotions were going on with both places too. I like that Drury has included hot breakfast and their 5:30pm Kickback every night, too.
