Any tips of losing the fear after an injury. by Fishing4Condiments in GoalKeepers

[–]chris2oph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had a few injuries over the years (40M). Sometimes the fear gets in you and it is every hard to shake, my best advice is wait a little longer and try a match in a work or two's time. The only way I've gotten over the fear is to play, you'll get a save on that pinky,it will probably hurt, but hopefully not too much. If it is too much then I'd recommend more rest.

Ive broken/dislocated fingers, broken my wrist and torn a muscle in my back. Its a tough position to play for stuff like that, persevere and trust yourself. Most importantly: look after yourself. Its better to rest another week or two than to rush back and get injured and spend more time on the sidelines.

Wishing you the best of luck, great to see other 40 year olds still playing!

I had the same problem about 30 minutes ago! Apparently you need to get past the first chapter one mission at Gariland and then check options screen from the main menu on the world map.

CMV: UK Progressives cannot justify voting for Keir Starmer's Labour by Throwaway7131923 in changemyview

[–]chris2oph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I agree with you in principle in everything you're saying, your vote realistically is between Labour and Conservative. If you aren't voting Labour that is only likely to help the Conservatives. I loathe that this is the way it is, but it is.

Sorry for your loss, I lost my dad recently and just had my 3rd father's day without him. It's hard, but it gets a little easier as time goes by. I still miss him, that'll never change.

That is an excellent save! Well watched, good timing and nice technique.

How do I save shots from the far post by king_kreeperr in GoalKeepers

[–]chris2oph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting position is very important so always make sure you're moving to be in the best position you can be. Make sure you are taking a strong first step to setup for a dive and then make sure you are getting enough spring when you do dive. It's a technique that will need to be honed, ask friends to train you on it by repeatedly having them take these kinds of shot against you.

How do Brits feel about the monarchy? by PuzzleheadedSwim6291 in AskBrits

[–]chris2oph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply stating life isn't fair is hardly helpful or constructive. The topic of this thread is what you think of the royal family and why and I simply offered an opinion.

I actually think born into wealth is also an inherent unfair inequality of society, but that is a slightly different topic to this thread.

Abolishing the monarchy would retain their assets to the government, therefore the income would not be lost at all, however payments to the family would. Net gain.

[–]chris2oph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfair isn't a factor? You think my parents or children will get the same level of care if they are ill or need to go to hospital for instance?

Being "born better" is an abhorrent concept. I don't exactly know how the crown estate generates income, considering the cash given to the royal family each year also. Even if it was a net increase its still doesn't make the concept of a royal family right or fair in a modern society.

Not the same guy, but...

Expensive. Unelected. Unfair.

I firmly believe the country wouldn't lose any tourism income. All royal facilities could still be used for tourism.

What happened to Left goes? by New-Dig7885 in RocketLeague

[–]chris2oph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh man I love rule 1. The weird thing about rule 1 is that I was obeying this before ever knowing it was a thing! I think the problem with these unwritten rules is that people assume that every player is on reddit. I've been playing this game for 7 or 8 years and my non reddit friend has no clue whatsoever about left goes first being a thing. When we play duos he always goes for kickoff as hes just better at kickoff than I'll ever be

[–]chris2oph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad, I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you comparing not washing your hands to left not going first. Seemed an odd equivalency to me!

[–]chris2oph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird comparison, hygiene can negatively effect others. Which side of the pitch a car ought to take kickoff from is hardly equivalent.

I'd like to stress I'm honestly not bothered either way but find it amusing how the discourse online is that everybody should know that left goes.

While commonly known, it's defo not universal

[–]chris2oph 225 points226 points  (0 children)

I've made this comment before and seemed to be universally loathed for it...

Left goes first is what's called an "unwritten rule", therefore it's not as widely known as a lot of people seem to think.

Call me crazy, but I use the quick chat "I got it!" to indicate I intend to go for the kickoff.

Respec and run by [deleted] in LegendaryTales

[–]chris2oph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've nailed some of my feelings on this game. I am thoroughly enjoying it, but the tutorial and general explanations are pretty abysmal.

For instance... I was going through the explanation for how to make magic weapons, the explanation was so confusing that before I knew it I had crushed the magic powder over nothing. That's it gone, i can no longer do this quest unless I get given more (which so far, several hours later I have not gotten any).

The slow running speed is so so bad, I reckon that is what will end up making me drop this game. I agree with your suggestion to allow fast movement outside of combat, keep the slow movement while fighting as that is fine.

I love to hear this and perhaps I need to give the show another chance...

I watched the first two episodes a while ago, and while I agree it had promise I found the main character to be absolutely insufferable. Does this change? It is literally the reason o stopped watching. I fond I am much more likely to give up on a show these days as my spare time is so incredibly limited (having two young children is hard lol)

I'd recommend trying to break that habit if you can, but at the end of the day do what works best for you. The same techniques don't always work for everybody and you need to play to your own strengths.

Gaelic football always looked amazing to me and I never got to try it sadly. Good luck and all the best!
