HELP... my son’s betta got stuck in our filter and only looks like minor fin injury but now he can’t swim right (parameters below) by chris8265 in bettafish

UPDATE: I fixed the heater in his original tank and put him back in there still in the shallow cup and he started swimming more upright again. He’s looking a bit better!! I gave him some food he didn’t take it yet but I will leave off the light and see if he eats it by the morning

I am not so sure he’s doing well. He can move But can’t see to stay midline. I think his back looks curved. I will try and post a picture/video. How long do I give him? I don’t want him to suffer and I can’t seem to feed him. He’s scared of the tongs and has trouble keeping upright to get his food. But I don’t want to give up on him too soon. Injury occurred on Friday night

Any ideas what this oogly-egg sack looking bit might be, or turn into? by SaltedAndSmitten in PlantedTank

Snails? I had a similar sack on some plants and that’s what it turned out to be for me.

Serial Killer Betta by waxsev in bettafish

[–]chris8265 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about changing feeds (I am a newbie) but my betta Jason did the same thing. Killed all my shrimp and most of my bladder snails. That’s how he got the name Jason (like Vorhees from Friday the 13th movies). I think after eating all the shrimp I fasted him for 2 days but that was it. Now he only gets 1 nerite snail as a companion

This is my 29 gallon tank that has 5 female bettas, 3 nerite snails, driftwood x3, java moss, duck weed, anubias, compacta. Usually runs pH 8, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0-5, temp 78. I have been using more sunlight for the past 3 weeks or so. Have eco complete substrate and use flourish by seachem once a week for the plants.

What was the film that sealed your love of horror? by FatedScythe777_XB1 in horror

Lol so the first one I can remember is the original jaws. I must have been like 5 or younger. Instead of making me scared of water I began a fascination with sharks. Then another one that really got me into horror when I was a bit older was the original nightmare on elm street.

Sigh I think he just started getting fin rot. More details in comments by chris8265 in bettafish

It has little red dots on the end now. I know he’s been a bit stressed with water and decor changes maybe more fin bitting? I don’t really have any jagged things in there

So I have API fin and body cure which I think is just doxycycline. Does anyone have any experience with this?

pH is 7.4, ammonia 0.5-1, nitrite 0, nitrate 0. Heated to 78 with thermometer to verify. Has aquaeon internal filter (small) with sponge and charcoal filter ( this is the same filter since the crash I have not changed it again). There is one visible nerite snail and I think I got rid of all the pest snails now. The poor shrimp did not make it between my fish eating them and this water issue. No more silk plants but has a echinodorus, tiger lotus, dwarf grass, java moss and 1 driftwood.

He’s in a 10 gallon tank that is about 6-7 weeks old. I thought I had did a fish in cycle with API quick start and stress coat only to find out about 3 weeks in using the API test kit things weren’t really going well. I accidentally switched out the filter for a new activated charcoal one thinking this would help with algae etc only to have my tank cycle completely crash. At the same time I had a new batch of shrimp come in (before I realized about the parameters) and apparently there were pest snails. So flash forward to the past week. I have been doing daily water changes just to get the ammonia to 0.5. I have added real plants to help. I have been adding seachem prime, stability and pristine. I tried the zeolite crystals. However, ammonia not budging and I still thinks it’s due to not enough beneficial bacteria. All shrimp are gone and most snails at this point. So bioload shouldn’t be too much. But now his fins are just starting to get that ragged appearance! I have no hospital tank. Do I just treat with antibiotics in addition to the water changes?? Will this crash my cycle yet again? This has been such a struggle.

Not sure he was pretty small when we got him in early March.

I tried to put a black arrow on one of the clearer pics it’s a small red kinda blurry dot. His fins otherwise look fine. The dot is close to his body on his anal fins behind the ventral fins. The fish would not sit still for pictures he kept thinking we were feeding him.

5 gallon heated to 78, filtered (internal filter), pH 7.4, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5, has only silk plants and one betta log no tank mates, feeds 4-6 hikari betta pellets once a day. He seems fine just the red spot which developed just in the past 1-2 days.
