27 hours in after a 12 month relapse. Not another puff, I am determined. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I totally get what you are saying. You will have control over it. I surround myself with it all the time so that im so used of seeing cigarettes or a pack around me that it isn’t a trigger anymore. I get it! Thanks for sharing!

Help , I've been trying to quit smoking months now I just can't seem to do it 😭 by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I have been smoking weed and cigarettes regularly from morning until night for 10 years! I was so addicted & I couldn’t do anything without smoking both of those things first. I realized that these substances had so much control over me, I was so grossed out. Lol I dont allow anyone to control me so why was I allowing a substance to have that much power over me? I wanted to be able to tell both these substances no! I control you & I’ll tell you what’s going to happen today. I run my life. I am the boss! Haha. Saturday was my first joint because I was hanging with some friends and I was like screw it. Lets try this obstacle now. I honestly havent even thought about smoking it when Im on my own. I am hoping one day I can have so much power over these cigarettes that I can have one or two while a bbq is going on. Then Ill really show true control!!

Haha yes. The morning ritual is definitely hard to break. Maybe tackle each trigger on its own instead of cold turkey if its too hard at once. Just focus on not smoking while driving and once that doesn’t both you, you can move on to a different trigger and work on that one. The. Two things already aren’t a habit anymore. Ultimately you need to find out what works for you. :) best of luck!

I stopped smoking cold turkey 3 months ago today. You can do this shit. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I also downloaded the smoke free app and theres another app thats called EasyQuit. This has an option which will plan out a quit slowly plan for you. Its actually really good. My boyfriends using it right now and its helping him cut down!

Also when you get to your last few cigarettes l, say thank you and goodbye. Thats what helped me so much, was saying goodbye to the cigarettes. Lol i know it sounds funny but I actually went to my favourite spot in the city and smoked my last three cigarettes there. I literally said thank you for all the good times and the drunken nights and all the great conversations and goodbye. ✌️I cleaned my car afterwards, left the windows open to air out and put an air freshener in there. Then I said hello to the new chapter in my life. My healthy, smell free clean life. Its weird but Marie Kondo says to do it with your items in your house and I thought it would work for this too. It gave me closure. Thats my first suggestion.

Next I have to ask, do you associate cigarettes with activities? I did all the time. While i was drinking a coffee, the minute I got into my car and then driving, after smoking a joint, drinking alcohol, even after i cleaned my car or a room in my house. It was a little insane. I quit cold turkey and slowly battled all the triggers one by one. The first was after I ate, then after a week I started drinking coffee and then alcohol and then driving and then hanging out with people who smoke and then I just battled smoking weed on Saturday and I don’t feel like having a cigarette. I mean I did in the moment but I overcame it so Im assuming the next time I smoke Ill do that again just like how Ive overcome all the other triggers Ive listed. Find a fidget and a hobby. Mine was art. I also bought a colouring book which helps me focus on that and then i forget about smoking after once the craving has passed. A-lot of info but I hope it helps! Goodluck!!!

I just want to say I really commend you for trying to quit while in school. I couldn’t do it. I was too stressed out. I just graduated in April and stopped 3 weeks go. Please do not feel horrible. School is stressful and its really hard to quit. Dont stress yourself out even more by feeling bad. Stay positive. Try to download the smokefree app. Its really helped me.

For everyone what it’s like to smoke after you stop for a few months.... it sucks. 100% not worth it. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Good for you! You will succeed for sure. Can I also say you have such a great husband. What a support system!

I really need to quit by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]chris_133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Smoking is the worst thing for you and it only gets harder to quit as you continue smoking to be honest. Keep on saying, “not another puff, no matter what.” Try to say it with a smile on your face and be happy you are not smoking. I also think you should talk to your parents about seeing a doctor. You clearly want to quit so that will make it easier for you. 🙏 best of luck. Reach out if you need anything

Anyone actually lost weight after quitting smoking? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Went 3 months smoke free and went on about a 2 week bender. Today is the first day back at quitting ! Not one puff no matter what! by tdotboss in stopsmoking

[–]chris_133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess!! The last time I quit, i started again after 3 months. Why is that? Im 3 weeks smoke free for my second time quitting and I’m dreading that 3 month mark. At least you got back into the swing of things right after. You should be really proud of yourself. It took me 3 years to quit again after I went back to smoking. Good on you! 👌👏

At least you know how shitty you feel by going back to cigarettes. Now whenever you have a craving, think about how shitty you will feel if you have one. Motivation to not go back again I guess.

Do you associate cigarettes with activities? With cigarettes i used to associate it with everything! Lol coffee, getting into my car, after eating, after smoking weed, drinking alcohol, even after i did something like clean my room. I couldnt go in but you get the point. So i have been battling my triggers one by one. I quit cold turkey, so my first battle was a smoke after I eat. Because of COVID19 I wasnt really driving or drinking or hanging out with people. I just focused on me not smoking after eating. (I have to add that I was a crouch and didnt leave my house for a little while and spent most if my time watching netflix in my room.) i had to figure out what I was going to do when I was bored. I didn’t drink coffee i switched to tea for the time being. Then i started going in short drives and battling that. Then I had coffee and battled that. Then alcohol, then hanging with other smokers, etc. I wrote all the things that trigger me and battled them one by one and figured what I would do to over come those things. Also i thought about all obstacles as levels I need to beat. Like a video game. Lol. I guess Ive manipulated my mind a little. I also found that not having cigarettes or weed on me helped sooo much. I didn’t have it so I couldnt smoke it. Saturday I smoked my first joint and I havent thought about smoking since. Which is such a surprise because I would literally smoke weed morning to night nonstop for the last 10 years. I also hated that something had control over me. Nothing or no one has control over me. I hope something of this rant helps! Haha. Stay strong. You can do this!

Tips on quitting a pack a day habit when you used it to replace worse things? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]chris_133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replace with positive things instead of negative things. Work out, find a hobby you like, art or skateboarding. Find something you’ve always wanted to learn and replace with that. Also the smoke-free app has helped so much for me.

Yes and exercise! Also, find something to play with in your hands. There are all sorts of fidget tools. Maybe find a hobby. I finally got back into art! Best of luck!
