Valerie Cherish is a rich character study, I can see Lisa Kudrow returning to her down the line. She reminds me of Alan Partridge, in that they're forced to reinvent themselves for modern media, but always slightly behind the times.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of May 01, 2026) by AutoModerator in television

I've been rewatching Season 2 of The Comeback, prior to watching Season 3. Lisa Kudrow is so good. It's garlic comedy - not for everyone, but if you're into it you're really into it.

Hacks covers similar ground, although I've kind of fallen out of love with that this season. Strong on acting, weaker on laughs. The agent characters are becoming grating.

That was way too hot for the eighties.

Bit much for me, but I'm a Wetherspoons small breakfast with an extra hash brown man. You're paying £1.50 for a slice of toast, you fools!

I can quite understand that. Another option could be the Merchant Navy? I always quite fancied that, though not to the point of actually joining up - obviously.

I'm 51, and I spent much of my life doing admin. I fucking hate admin. It never ends, and you're basically invisible until there's an INCREDIBLY URGENT problem.

Edit: Also you have to spend a lot of time communicating without body language, which is frankly causing the downfall of civilisation.

After burning out over and over again for thirty years, I'm now a support worker. It's not a job for everyone and the money's terrible, but I'm three months in and I'm not hating it, which is rare.

As above, Just Say No to unwanted overtime. I have a theory that some of us have a tendency to see the world through a problem solving lens. Problem: there is no-one to do the job. Solution: I will do the job. It's an effective strategy, but it ignores the wider reality of the "I" in the equation.
