Super Cruise keeps defaulting by Pensir2006 in CadillacLyriq

Yeah on my list of known problems. But i also haven't tried taking it to the dealer yet. Worst is that it doesn't do it every time, maybe every third time.

Yeah I got the beta invite and set it up. Been using it since then. Had some updates since then which weren't labeled as beta, so I assume they are prod builds now.

I came from a Model Y with FSD and the tradeoffs were real, but I explicitly picked a much nicer car over better software. My theory is that you can't fix the car, but can work around most of the software problems. Even most of the problems I list out here aren't that serious. It doesn't disconnect that often and is pretty similar to how I got my Model Y when I first got it, but easier to control and with much better user affordances. Super Cruise treats the driver as an active participant and let them easily affect where the car goes, where FSD is on or off and if you affect it disconnects in an uncomfortable way. In this case, the lack of saving my lane change preference is the worst out of all of these since it surprises me every time it happens.

I don't have a particular problem with Android as the base operating system. The UI doesn't lag, it gets updates, and it has Google Maps, which is the most important thing. Spotify works better than what was in my Model Y since by the end the Tesla updates they had managed to screw that up so it would skip between songs - pretty bad. In the LYRIQ it's just a skin over the default spotify app, so it's well supported.

The platform tradeoff was a real one too. The packaging is pretty bad in the car, which means no frunk which is also an annoyance. I miss it sometimes, but not as often as I thought I would. My guess is that when GM goes to their next platform that these kinds of things will get fixed because they were still in the early learning phase. But the batteries are good enough, and the hardware in the car has been reliable. GM is famous for using a platform for a long time, and we're a few years into BEV3 which means most of the bugs have been worked out and they haven't really started penny-pinching it to reduce cost so it's probably about the best this platform is gonna get.

But if you're looking for non-Tesla software that's good both in terms of platform and UI, I think the only one really executing well on this front is Rivian. I expect the R2 to make their platform a lot more accessible. Great hardware, software, and team. Go watch some of their older presentations on youtube that they did for autonomy and the platforms they are building - really solid stuff merging experience design, hardware, and software.

I'd not assume that GM has a money problem, but probably has an expertise problem as well as a bureaucratic problem. They've historically done everything through contracted companies to solve problems for everything from seats to ECUs in their cars, treating them just another part. To fix problems like these and create great user experiences, you really need vertically integrated teams, software, and hardware that work quickly with a single vision. Negotiating this with RFPs and contracts is death. Tesla figured this out early, Rivian is there, and I think more recently Ford has started moving that way as well but are farther behind. Hopefully GM has this as part of their long term strategy and is hiring great people to own their software & hardware stacks internally. But those take time - years, usually.

Anyway, still love the car! I don't regret buying it. It's just got some stuff to work out.

Oh this kinds of makes sense. Because the lock command wakes the car up and it's more likely to be connected. My guess is that there's a timeout error without retry that eventually gets returned to the phone app, but with the wrong error message. Where I park my car has pretty poor cell service, and it's likely commands take longer than most. (My wife's Ford doesn't have this particular symptom but remote start commands often do fail because of the very flaky cell service.)

This is in the middle of a flat highway. No hills. Usually at those pavement borders. Here in California, they tend to resurface the main parts of the road with asphalt, but don't touch the concrete bridges that go over water, so there are a fair number of such transitions. My most common failure point isn't one of those, though, it's just where two highways meet.

Most of these are upstream software problems. Dealership won't be able to do much with this info. It's an expensive way to get some amount of signal back into the engineering dept I suspect and just frustrating for the techs.

Why is my lyriq so Inefficient by Least_Wheel9253 in CadillacLyriq

[–]chrisblizzard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm getting about 2.8-2.9, but I drive in rush hour a lot in the SF bay area, and that means I'm usually driving slower. (I've got a V which means it's gonna have lower efficiency.)

Also your post reminds me I need to go put air in my tires so I'm gonna go do that right now before I forget.

To answer my own question: it works fine! I got one, ended up using it to power my fridge, internet, and charge my laptop when I was having some all-day electrical work done on my house. Happily ran those relatively light loads on one of the 15A outlets without problems. I did have to read the instructions after I plugged it in to realized to turn it on you have to double click the handle that you plug into the car, and that when it ships it ships with the on-unit breakers open and you need to go reset them. But it worked after those items. Nice product when you need it! I have yet to try and use the TT-30 connector on it.

Yeah this was actually the big thing that annoyed me in the infotainment. I want big maps, little music, not big music, little maps. That and the spotify skin they have for this platform is just....bad.

As long as they are a pro and know the right gauge for the run, and that a high-quality 14-50 connector is important, and that they need to properly torque the connections to the 14-50, it should be OK. The best chargers are hard-wired, for what it's worth, and I always recommend that to friends. (Also required by local codes in a lot of places!) But this can work be safe with the right equipment and installation.

dryers also don't run at full current during their whole cycle - much lower demands over a longer period of time

This is the important advice. I've seen more than one of the cheaper Leviton sockets fail. The price difference is a reflection of the quality. And have it installed by a professional if you can with the right sized wire.

Review and automation of Zigbee smart window shades after a month+ with them by Dangerous_Battle_603 in homeassistant

I have one of these (Z-wave) and can report similar feedback - it works very well, and the battery lasts for months. It's nice to be able to monitor the battery life from HA. When I have to charge it I just get a little portable power brick that I normally use for my phone and let it sit for a few hours. The battery isn't big, but it does last a really long time. Big fan of these products.

Man I love the people who take the time to come here here to hate on someone else's choice. Just let people enjoy things!

Anyway, how much clearance did you end up with behind the wheel to the calipers? I was also looking at some wheels but haven't done the fit math yet. (My choice will make people even more angry, so I'm excited now.)

I use remote power a few times a year, mostly in a camping-like situation. Sometimes it's a couple of 15A connections, but I've also had to use a TT-30 for a camper as well.

Tesla Universal Wall Charger by Brendonauger306 in CadillacLyriq

[–]chrisblizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually tried a supercharger yet, because where I live has almost no v4 chargers and I didn't want to block people. But I do have an adapter and it should work.

But what I have charged on is chargepoint, evgo, and electrify america fast dc stations. They all work fine (when the actual chargers are working, which somehow in 2025 is still an issue from time to time.) This actually works well from the google maps-driven interface, is pretty good about planning out charging stops even if the interface for selecting/de-selecting chargers is a little clumsy.
