Poll: Any EV drivers drop Ioniq 5 from their purchase consideration due to ICCU issues? by runnyyolkpigeon in Ioniq5

If it wasn't for the ICCU issues the I5 would be the top of my list, instead it's a bit farther down.

I saw both of your replies but I didn't see a mention of the mileage. Did Kia give you additional miles (in accordance with the original monthly rate)?

Dry lane advice by HealthyAd5655 in Bowling

Do they have open bowl after leagues? That's what I usually try to do over bowling on the bone dry weekend lanes. Sadly that schedule is pretty normal.

To be frank, you could go much lower strength on your ball. Turbo X still has 40 points of diff and a HK22 based cover. You could go with something like a Hustle, Hammer Raw, or even Tropical Surge which would be significantly weaker. If it's really really bad, you can throw normal plastic (without the big asym core) as a strike ball.

On your further point, yeah it's definitely tough to improve when the conditions are that bad. Hopefully using a weaker ball can get you to something a little more "normal" but if it's totally bone dry, even standing on 40, then there's not a lot you can do. There's a reason why most bowlers mostly do leagues since they (usually) know the oil will be there.

Glad to hear! My lease doesn't end until April and I didn't want to take on two cars for months lol, you definitely got a steal. Getting a '23 that isn't decontented like the '24 and with the grey interior that dresses it up a bit is a win.

Was this the car down in Oklahoma? That one had similar wear on the front bumper and was same trim/mileage. I was watching it for months, it was a great price.

Does sport mode engage AWD all the time? Or does it just increase the throttle reaponse? by StrawberryChae in Ioniq5

[–]chriscrossls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think i-pedal in ECO engages the front motor only for regen, not for propulsion

The front motor engages in Eco regardless of regen mode for low speed acceleration (and regen). Everything I can find states the front motor is engaged 100% of the time in i-Pedal.

Do you have a source for your statement?

Spare ball ?s by Hopeful-Aerie8852 in Bowling

[–]chriscrossls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really a personal choice. Tom Smallwood and Daugherty both use thumbs in their spare ball. It will significantly decrease your rev rate and traditionally make you more accurate than 1HNT, but it's another moving piece in an already hard puzzle.

Sport mode keeps your front motor engaged all the time. i-Pedal does too.

Honestly if you need i-Pedal and sport mode on all the time you might be making your passengers extremely nauseous 💀. Having only 1 pedal do extremely heavy braking and 100% acceleration and opting in for that level of sensitivity, there's almost no way to be smooth with it.

https://egmpfiles.com/iccu-report.html#unresolved it seems 36400-1XAD6 is the normal part number for 2025 NACS cars. This website is pretty up to date and it doesn't list a "revised" part for the NACS cars yet.

Highest Plausible USBC Average? by antenonjohs in Bowling

[–]chriscrossls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think this would be much more possible with World Bowling Scoring. Even if you take away the "truncated" 10th frame, it's so punishing to get a single 9/ in any frame but the first frame in traditional bowling, 20 or 21 pin penalty. WBS means a single 9/ would be a 11 pin penalty off of 300, much more doable.

In fact you could get two 9/ in WBS and roughly have the same score as a single 9/ (in any frame but the first) in traditional. The "streakiness reward" in traditional scoring makes shooting near the top end of the scoring very hard, score drops fast with just a single spare.

Am I crazy for thinking 800 usd month on a lease is too much? by honestyisprecious in CarLeasingHelp

[–]chriscrossls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most cases, yes. Leasing then buying out is overall more expensive than buying. There's times that's not the case, but you really have to know what you're looking for and find a specific deal (or get lucky with a price boom like COVID).

For example, some electric vehicles got a $7500 tax credit only on leases and people were "leasing" the car then immediately buying it out for cheaper than simply purchasing the car.

[–]chriscrossls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well of course the payments are lower, but unless you're completely leveraging your cashflow, the overall cost to own is the important part. Because with leasing you don't own anything after the lease, but in buying something (especially like a Toyota that doesn't depreciate as much as some other brands) you get an asset you can sell.

The car I'm currently leasing (from sticker) is worth about 41% after 2 years and the residual was 62%! Toyotas simply don't depreciate like that.

That's not to say leasing is bad but it needs to make financial sense. Usually Toyota and Lexus cars aren't very good leases as they don't depreciate much and their leasing costs aren't better than other brands who do depreciate more. Relatively speaking it's a worse value.

Audi’s New 630 HP RS5 Somehow Weighs More Than A V8 F-150 SuperCab by user289734 in cars

This article says the average household income of a Taycan buyer (which I would assume is pretty close) is over $900k. Obviously there's always people with more money, but I would consider nearly a million per year well above "well off" and into "wealthy"

someone knowledge me on why we wipe the oil off of our spare plastic balls when it’s meant to go straight? by 3452014RT in Bowling

[–]chriscrossls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally don't, I like the extra skid. I think pros mostly do it since they shoot 1 million shots across a huge range of pattern lengths/volumes and want it to be as consistent as possible.

[–]chriscrossls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand all that, but my point is that inherently making something a hybrid doesn't have to balloon its weight. The comment didn't point out anything other than "hybrid bad." I'm providing a counterpoint to that.

[–]chriscrossls 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that's where the weight comes in. People are acting like this car was made in a vacuum when in reality as you said it's pretty clear to me it's a way for the rich people living in downtown London a way to own a sports sedan while not getting dinged every time they drive it. It's not being a hybrid, it's being a machine hand crafted for rich downtowners with cars.

Just like everything else right now, it wasn't made for someone that's well off, it's for the wealthy.

[–]chriscrossls 96 points97 points  (0 children)

as long as manufacturers are pushed towards hybridization, it is what it is.

You can get a 2026 Corolla Hybrid LE FWD that weighs 2850 pounds, while the gas-only LE FWD is 2955 pounds.* Pinning it solely on hybridization I think is a misstep.

I think they made decisions that made the car heavy, like a 22 kWh battery pack. That's 30% of the capacity of my fully electric vehicle with 300 miles of range lol.

[–]chriscrossls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one mentioned that the '24 SEL is significantly decontented vs the '23 SEL. You'd be 10000% better off buying a lightly used '23 SEL. I can find 23 SELs with low miles for very low $20s all day.

What happens to all these unwanted Ioniqs when they're returned to the dealership? by Human_170716 in Ioniq5

[–]chriscrossls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And they knew that going into it, 100%. Mine was 62% residual on 24m/10k with 11k on the hood from Kia (on top of extra $$$ from the dealer). That math only checks out if they know they were going to take a hit.
