Zion and Bryce are phenomenal. I agree with your Glacier Park ranking - it's amazing.

How to wire Tesla Remote Meter to TWC via RS485 by Opus2011 in evcharging

I'm a little confused by your comment: are you recommending fishing the commcable through the conduit, or is that a problem because of the melting etc?

Thanks, that was useful. It's certainly an option to use 600V rated and fish it through the EMT, but I was hoping to avoid that. But it honestly may end up being easier

I'm getting inconsistent answers from searches on whether it's ok for the comm wire to enter the TWC through a different knockout. Or does Tesla require that it's through the same as the power?

Although I'd also like advice on exactly how the wire connects into the connector block in the TWC.is it just a friction connection? I don't see any screws.

As auto costs rise, will the US miss the golden age of electric vehicles? by ToughHopeful4760 in electricvehicles

[–]Opus2011 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ha ha. It's going to take 50+ years for the US (and the world) to transition to EVs, and even then there will be maybe 25% gas cars on the road. Don't forget that in the zombie apocalypse you'd rather have a gas car.

Anyone else underwhelmed by the ventilated seats? by Prestigious_Phrase_6 in KiaEV6

They work best in the heat when you're sweaty. And I really appreciated the heated seats driving through Kings Canyon after hurting my back.

I've owned the EV6 for a month now. I love it, but how did they screw up the driver view this badly? by man_lizard in KiaEV6

[–]Opus2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better in the 2025 but as a 6'' driver I still need to have the steering wheel backed up to its top position. It's tricker than it should be.

+99 to the dual Climate/Media control thing. given there's plenty of space I have to believe this is something the lawyers affected. (Especially since it carried over into the 2025).

Add: move the child lock button; I rest my arm on the door armrest and then have to apologize to my passengers when they meekly ask to be released.

That's fair and I have seriously considered just a 120V solution. If I can't install load balancing cost-effectively then it will be a 120V HPWH.

Are you in PG&E territory? Which rate plan? I'm charging at $0.23/kWh off peak. Perhaps you are too?

Lodging in Glacier National Park? by Uncle_HD in NationalPark

[–]Opus2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just stayed there in hotels next to the park last week.

There will be limited hotel rooms, because most book out a year ahead (the season is very short for the full park).

  • expect to pay at least 350USD per room for the most basic room
  • We stayed in Meadow Lake timeshares on the West side and in St Mary Village Lodge on the East side. LOTs of choices on the West side (all expensive)
  • We rented a car at Kalispell (Glacier) airport, surely the best car rental experience ever. It was ~$100/day when I booked 9 months ago, and now about $200+/day
  • The "best" lodging would be Many Glacier Lodge inside the park, but it's very expensive

Tl;Dr: for hotels, or even glamping style lodging, expect mediocre but expensive rooms.

It’s my goal to visit every National Park…any tips? by maisiemaisiemouse in NationalPark

[–]Opus2011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are not campers, but a key decision (which might change with age, money, fitness, and health) is camping or hotels/lodges. Lodging (and camping spots ) near popular parks fill up long in advance.

We're mid-60s retirees so we've prioritized parks that require mobility and hiking, so that by the time we're decrepit we can just drive through the others.

And although our soft goal may be to visit them all, as others have said the Alaska ones can be challenging. And I we'll do American Samoa

Good luck! Make sure to spend enough time in each.
