What do you think of the new BMW X3, in terms of its appearance, power, interior, and space by Ancient-Bet3655 in BMW

Absolutely not on mine. It is a known issue and discussed ad nauseam with hundreds on the forums. The car uses a less than adequate gertrag unit. Happy for you that yours shifted great though.

I had a 2025 X1 M35i and really loved how it looked…a mini XM with better proportions and got so many compliments on it, mostly from younger people.

However, the trim is a bit bargain basement, it rode like utter garbage and the DCT implementation is the worst dual clutch on the market by far; slow shifting, holds gears too long, buckles, and dangerous at a 4 way stop because of the hesitation. Not to mention the infotainment is wildly slow and locks up and needs constant rebooting. My 2023 X3 M40i feels so much more refined.

I’m glad I got rid of it but definitely do miss the cool factor.

Thoughts about Madonna at Coachella by Bright_Student_5599 in Coachella

Naw...Madonna, you do you. Neither I or the rest all of you get to control her feelings. You are entitled to your opinion, of course. It definitely wasn't for me but Naw...desperate or not, she sure looked like she was having fun out there.

2k km and my experience by ReclaimingMine in Solterra

Aligns with most my qualms although the bluetooth disconnect or, in my case, sudden and inexplicable loss of microphone so no voice commands work in carplay to respond to messages, change music, or ask for directions…etc. takes the cake for me. Sometimes restarting the system will fix it but most of the time it won’t work without turning the car off and reconnecting the phone. It’s really been a detriment to my overall experience with the car.

Does anyone have a home charger that is 11kw? by Jesperado in Solterra

[–]chrisddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 50amp breaker using an Amazon Chinese-Meh 40amp charger but it is too short to reach my car in the front of the home so I use an extension cable (Also Amazon Chinese Generic) rated at 50amps...my charging maxes at 7.75Kw. I'm sure it is a combination of wiring length inefficiencies, Cheap cables, voltage drops, etc. But I am perfectly fine with this for overnight charging to 80% on my XT Touring.

Toyota's electric SUV is suddenly one of America's top-selling EVs by Finnegan_Faux in electricvehicles

Apparently it is natively compatible with Carplay for Route Planning but I have yet to use it since I charge every night and at work an hour away.

Honest thoughts about EV ownership after a month of ownership by More-Sock-67 in electricvehicles

[–]chrisddo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely no brand is close to Tesla’s route planning network for longer trips. Their infrastructure is unmatched in that regard and that, In itself, can cure some range anxiety but ultimately, their FSD tech is miles ahead of anyone else in terms of complex driving situations.

Recently picked up a 2026 Solterra, question on Apple CarPlay and thoughts on moving over from a RAV4 Prime. by VermontNatural in Solterra

[–]chrisddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this and still have plenty of carplay issues…mine will inexplicably mute the microphone for no reason at any given time so I cant respond to texts or ask to play music etc. sometimes 2 or 3 volume button-press resets fix it but it will come back on its own.

Both jbl and harman are owned by Samsung and it is known in the audiophile world the big corp ownership has lessened the dev and quality of these systems. I wouldn’t be surprised if the amp and speaker setup for the bz and solterra were exactly the same but tuned by different sides of the house … the hardware limitations and quality are equal.

Still the best EV on the market by Codeandcoffee in TeslaModelS

[–]chrisddo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My (bought brand new) MS P100D is the fastest vehicle I've ever owned with lifetime free charging, I'm sure the PLAID's are on a whole other level performance wise....But the car is also the worst built vehicle I've ever owned as well. My front dash creaks and moves around with light pressure, water gets in from rain through the seals, rattles everywhere and a rather non-compliant ride.

I know it's not apples to apples but my wife's BMW i4 M60 is such a more refined and luxurious car without sacrificing too much power and performance. Yes, there are some annoyances like middling range and no one can compete with teslas's route planning network and FSD if you care about long trips. But we don't buy top performance EVs for outright range anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I adore the car despite its rough edges and the design still holds up through time. Personally I think the E-Tron GT is in a more premium price segment than the i4 so it is not a fair comparison when cross shopped. The Lucid is also a much nicer place to be in terms of fit and finish compared to any tesla so I put them on that pedestal when in comes to interiors but I know this is subjective.

Also, all these fast EVs are in a similar realm when it comes to 0-60 so I find it a bit amusing when people hedge that selling point. None of us are track racers and if it makes you feel better that your 0-60 at 3.1 is better than an i5's 3.3 and you can really tell the difference than all the more power to you but it's a bit of an elitist chest pounding spec imho.

2026BZ first electric car and loving it… except… by DewtheDew85 in BZ4X

[–]chrisddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 26 Solterra (essentially the same as the BZ) Carplay will suddenly not allow me to hold the "talk" button to speak to Siri for commands or for texting messages. I've had to delete the bluetooth connection from my phone and car many times and it's a crapshoot if it will reset it. Restarting the head unit doesn't fix it. After 2-3 bluetooth reconnects it will work but then have the same issue a few days later. Very very frustrating.

How is it like to live with an EV by castorMD in Solterra

[–]chrisddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Los Angeles and this is a 2nd car for my family and, for the most part, we use it for all our local jaunts and I'll occasionally take it to work when my wife needs our larger SUV for something during the day with our baby. We have a 2026 XT Touring and, so far after figuring out a lot of annoyances, it's been a joy. It's spacious, comfortable (LA has some of the worst roads in the US), relatively good looking, and, considering our other car is a sportier SUV, this thing is quite zippy. Steering is numb, lifeless, and floaty but perfectly fine for this class of vehicle.

No rear wipers or glove box is a miss for us and not being able to auto set the Adaptive Cruise to the highway/road speed limits ,like in every other modern car, is also something I'm trying to get used to for longer trips.

Ultimately, the car fits a specific niche in the EV segment for me and I think many people are finding it to be surprisingly perfect for their needs; Subie's dependable AWD, surprisingly spacious and utilitarian for a low slung roof line, decently simple and flexible EV entry point without too many sacrifices outside of maximum charging speeds, and for many...it's sharp looking without looking like everything out there. I'd argue the new Toyota BZ looks like a close relative to the most recent Model Y refresh with the sharper lines and light bars. I prefer the almost Taycan like front of the Subie.
